A complete power outage at the nation’s busiest airport, the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, grounded flights Sunday afternoon, threatening to cause a holiday travel nightmare for fliers across the country just over a week before Christmas. Airport officials said in a news release the power outage has forced the Federal Aviation Administration to suspend outgoing flights and implement a "ground stop" for incoming flights, which "means that flights headed to Atlanta are held on the ground at their departure airport." International flights will be diverted to land at other airports, U.S. Customs and Border Protection tweeted. Atlanta Airport tweeted that...

In his bag was a Ruger .38 pistol, loaded with a full magazine of seven hollow-point bullets....

In life…you have your good days and you have your bad days. However, there are certain professions where you should always be on your best behavior. Pilot of the plane is one of them. Why? Everything you say is recorded! Then someone posts it on the internet where it lives forever and ever! A Delta pilot was communicating with the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport when the jerkiness started. The pilot of flight 2422 did not take kindly to the idea of being on the wrong runway and yelled at the traffic controller for having a bad attitude.

The airport's new name -- Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport -- will be flying by year's end. Mayor Shirley Franklin said she would move quickly to rename Hartsfield International Airport after Monday's 12-2 vote by the City Council to add former Mayor Maynard Jackson's name. Jackson, Atlanta's first African-American mayor, died June 23. He and William B. Hartsfield, the city's longest-serving mayor, were credited with the growth and expansion of what is now one of the world's busiest airports. Voting against the name change were Clair Muller, who represents northwest Atlanta's District 8, and Anne Fauver, who represents east Atlanta's District 6....

The council members discussed the proposal for about two hours before voting 12 to two in favor of the change. The measure needed eight votes to pass. Instead of putting former Mayor Maynard Jackson's name on a new airport terminal, an Atlanta city councilman wants former Mayor William Hartsfield's name on it. Jackson's name then would replace Hartsfield's on Atlanta's main airport -- a suggestion that already has been given a cold shoulder by a special commission that will advise the City Council on mayoral honors this Friday. As the special advisory commission prepares to recommend that the council name the new $982 million international terminal for Jackson, Councilman Derrick Boazman on Monday introduced three proposals of his own: One calls for renaming Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport...

Maynard Jackson, Atlanta's first black mayor, cast a huge shadow Tuesday over his white predecessors as the campaign to rename Atlanta's airport developed into raw racial politics. "This really shouldn't be about what the white business establishment would allow," said state Rep. "Able" Mable Thomas, a former Atlanta City Council member. "It's really what the strength of the African-American community will allow. What will we stand for? The real deal is we stood too long silent. Atlanta is being gentrified every day. So, while you do still have a majority, as Maynard would say, use the power you have today."...
