Hey, I was reading an article on al-Qaeda in Time (itself a reasonably interesting read), and I noticed something kind of spooky: the letters "CIA" are capitalized throughout the article!!! Totally freaked me out, makes me wonder if al-Qaedas are hacking articles and sending messages through them! Check it out yourself: http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,366218,00.html?cnn=yes

Hackers send Sendmail a message Online vandals hacked into the primary download server for Sendmail.org and replaced key software with a Trojan horse, a Sendmail development team member said Wednesday. The apparent attack on Sendmail didn't leave a back door in the popular open-source e-mail software package, as previously believed, but compromised the download software on the Sendmail consortium's primary server so that every tenth request for source code would receive a modified copy in reply. "The exploited code that we see is not in our (development) tree at all," said Eric Allman, chief technology officer of Sendmail Inc., which...

<p>THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED. PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: They are two best selling authors with two very different takes on terrorism. In his book, "9-11," Noam Chomsky accuses the United States of being a terrorist state. He says the war in Afghanistan is wrong, states that in recent history, America has committed acts of terrorism, and maintains that America's foreign policy is hypocritical.</p>

Our Rangers still aren't allowed to talk publicly about Operation Anaconda, fought last March in Afghanistan, probably because the op proved in spades how out-of-touch the top brass are with counter-guerrilla tactics. I suspect the Secrecy Act's being employed once again to protect bad generals – at the cost of telling our countrymen the truth about an extraordinary mission conducted by the men of the 1st Platoon of Alpha Company, 1/75th Rangers.

SACRAMENTO (Reuters) - California Attorney General Bill Lockyer said on Wednesday he would return a $50,000 campaign contribution from Oracle Corp. to prevent the appearance of conflict of interest as he probes a controversial contract the state signed with the software giant. "Full, fair, nonpartisan and nonpolitical investigations have always been the standard for this office," Lockyer said in a statement. "Returning the campaign contributions from Oracle will help ensure that partisans don't undermine public confidence" in the Oracle probe, he said. Lockyer, a Democrat, has come under attack from some Republicans for the $50,000 donation, which he said was...

Hackers can potentially exploit a format-string vulnerability in remote wall requests to execute arbitrary code in Solaris, Sun Microsystems Inc.'s version of the Unix operating system, security experts warned. Sun Solaris Versions 2.5.1, 2.6, 7 and 8 require a security patch to the utility rwall daemon or rpc.rwalld, the CERT Coordination Center at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh said in an advisory yesterday. The rwall daemon listens for wall requests, which are used to send messages to terminals using a time-sharing system. The advisory warned that the utility contains a format string vulnerability that could permit a hacker to get...

A large commercial bank in Florida said Wednesday that "an Internet hacker" penetrated the security of its systems earlier this month and made off with a file containing 3,600 online-banking customer names and addresses. According to Internet records, the server hosting Republic's online bank, located at http://secure.republic.openbank.com , is operated by Atlanta-based S1 Corp. [NASDAQ:SONE], a leading provider of electronic finance services to banks, credit unions, insurance providers and investment firms. Chris...
