Where do we find such remarkable men?

Our Rangers still aren't allowed to talk publicly about Operation Anaconda, fought last March in Afghanistan, probably because the op proved in spades how out-of-touch the top brass are with counter-guerrilla tactics. I suspect the Secrecy Act's being employed once again to protect bad generals at the cost of telling our countrymen the truth about an extraordinary mission conducted by the men of the 1st Platoon of Alpha Company, 1/75th Rangers.

Awesome article and yet, I don't believe it comes anywhere near to tell the full hell the men were caught in, not that he claimed to either. Yes, where do we find such remarkable men???
To: Nitro
Those young men raised their hands, took their oaths, underwent incredibly tough, rigorous training, went where they were told to go................and fought like lions while being treated like pawns in a game. They weren't and aren't allowed the luxury of disobeying the orders of senior officers who moved up in the ranks during Clinton's administration; officers who have no business directing combat troops or operations.
God bless these young men. We will NOT forget.

No doubt I will incur the wrath of the majority of those who read this thread..........
It is my opinion that malcontents who always know better than their leaders find Hackworth because he is the head malcontent know it all.

As I read the article all the "History Channel" shows came back to me...
it started out as "Point du Hoc" on D-Day...
then it went into a "Battle of the Bulge" action...
and finally into a "Khe Sahn" knife fight!!
I wish I could have got my Navy into a few of those fights...
few battles with NGFS (Naval Gunfire Support) are lost!!

Amazing. A whole bunch of beaurocrats who never served in combat are out of touch? I refuse to believe it.

You've nailed it my friend. The number of vets in public service continues its inexorable downswing. I think the numbers of potentially remarkable men still exist but the armed services get smaller and smaller.

Promotions in the military are not based on combat experience. They are based on political experience and education.
A PHD or a key appointment is worth more than a Bronze Star in the Pentagon. We should hold an exercise. Drop a dismantled M-16 in the floor of a conference room and tell the people in the meeting that a gunman will be there in 5 minutes to kill them all.

I am always cynical of anyone whose life mission is to trash everyone who doesn't agree with them.
I'll not forget how Hackworth went after Admiral Boorda over a supposedly unearned medal only to be forced to remove a similar medal from his own website.
The media loves Hackworth because they loathe the military.

When I was in Basic Combat Training at Ft Lewis in 1970, all of the drill sergeants were RVN vets. They let us learn to disassemble and assemble M-14s and M-16s in a lit room. The final test was to do the same in a room that was dark. I stayed in the Army for 20+ years. Ticket punching was getting particularly bad by the time I retired. I am saddened by the types of people I see being promoted to the top ranks these days. Worse yet, is the fact that the NCO Corps is being swept up into the same kind of feeding frenzy.

Since the army has been downsized so much, then everyone should receive training up to Ranger standard. If it costs too much, then divert money from the pc garbage they have to go through now. Make everyone in the army earn that black beret.

Hackworth may be letting his fame go to his head to some extent but if you doubt his opinions I suggest you read About Face. Hack is genuine, but like many of us who are getting older, he loves to interfere and pontificate.

I don't know any one would ever suggest that the military brass never screw up.
For that matter, NO ONE IS INFALLABLE

how out-of-touch the top brass are with counter-guerrilla tactics.
And unless the average American has/had relatives in the military they don't know how much Clinton's PC has screwed up the officer corps in general
