Hey, I was reading an article on al-Qaeda in Time (itself a reasonably interesting read), and I noticed something kind of spooky: the letters "CIA" are capitalized throughout the article!!! Totally freaked me out, makes me wonder if al-Qaedas are hacking articles and sending messages through them!
Check it out yourself:

Sure enough . . . that's weird.
My guess would be that the writer got lazy about capitalization on the acronym "CIA" and used the MS Word "Replace" function to fix it (i.e. "cia" becomes "CIA"). Only he forgot to check the "whole word only" box. However, I find it difficult to believe that Time's proofreaders would be that sloppy.

Isn't it more noteworthy when Time isn't infected with ME liberals? ;)
Here's some of the CIAs in the article:
Though the Bali bombing was particularly sickening, it was part of a greater spasm of violence that has counterterrorism offiCIAls bracing for more.
Al-Qaeda prisoners now being interrogated, says a senior U.S. counterterrorism offiCIAl,
Later, according to U.S. Army offiCIAls,
espeCIAlly outside the U.S.
Well that's a couple, many more. Someone just did a search replace and forgot to only match on a whole world.

I read it yesterday and noticed the same thing. What ever they were trying to achieve if anything, didn't influence me. It may be that MS thing, that capitalizes those letter combinations if together.

Once I was watching one of the kids show the other one how to turn all the A's into B's or something like that, then she went to turn them back into A's and of course all the original B's turned into A's too.
