The mother of Ashli Babbitt, Micki Witthoeft, was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police at a protest Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C. marking the second anniversary of her daughter’s killing by Capitol Police officer Michael Byrd during the January 6th riot. Micki Witthoeft was part of a group of protesters walking westbound on Independence Avenue between the Capitol and House office buildings. A trailing police officer in a marked car tried to order the protesters to move to the sidewalk away from the Capitol. The protesters ignored the warning and continued marching, with Witthoeft on the outside in the middle of...

A little-noticed provision in the 2,232-page government spending bill passed last week bans U.S. arms from going to a controversial ultranationalist militia in Ukraine that has openly accepted neo-Nazis into its ranks. House-passed spending bills for the past three years have included a ban on U.S. aid to Ukraine from going to the Azov Battalion, but the provision was stripped out before final passage each year. {mosads}This year, though, the $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill signed into law last week stipulates that “none of the funds made available by this act may be used to provide arms, training or other...

"During more than 40 years of active journalism, including a stint as a defence reporter, I have never once been prevented from writing anything by a so-called "D" Notice (nowadays they are officially called DSMA notices, if you care), until now. I used to scoff when people told me that such things were common, or that I was constrained in reporting by them. Now I cannot"- Peter Hitchens Column Saturday April 30, 2022 "In the United Kingdom, a DSMA-Notice (Defense and Security Media Advisory Notice) is an official request to news editors not to publish or broadcast items on specified...

WASHINGTON — The Biden administration will extend for two weeks the nationwide mask requirement for public transit as it monitors an uptick in COVID-19 cases, according to a person familiar with the matter. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was set to extend the order, which was to expire on April 18, by two weeks to monitor for any observable increase in severe virus outcomes as cases rise in parts of the country. The move was being made out of abundance of caution, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to preview the CDC's action.

Washington: India's total purchase of oil from Russia in a month is probably less than what Europe does in an afternoon, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said. "I noticed you refer to oil purchases. If you are looking at energy purchases from Russia, I would suggest that your attention should be focused on Europe. We do buy some energy, which is necessary for our energy security. But I suspect looking at the figures, probably our total purchases for the month would be less than what Europe does in an afternoon," Jaishankar told a reporter when asked about India's oil...

OTTAWA -- Manitoba MP Candice Bergen is waking up with a new job today: unifying the Conservative caucus. The party's former deputy leader was elected by her colleagues to serve as interim leader after a majority of MPs ousted Erin O'Toole from the top job. Bergen faces a caucus that has spent weeks divided and angry over O'Toole's leadership since last year's election loss. The party must also start preparing to pick a permanent leader. It will be the third such race in the past five years. Party president Rob Batherson told members that its national council will be appointing...

SYDNEY — A lockdown in Australia’s largest city was extended through September and tougher measures to curb the coronavirus’s delta variant were imposed Friday, including a curfew and a mask mandate outdoors. New South Wales state, which includes Sydney, reported 642 locally acquired infections in the latest 24-hour period, the fourth consecutive day of tallies exceeding 600. Sydney has been locked down since late June after the more contagious delta variant was detected in a limousine driver who became infected while transporting a US cargo aircrew from Sydney Airport. Since then, 65 people have died from COVID-19 in New South...

The Department of Homeland Security on Thursday extended its travel restrictions between the US and Canada to Aug. 21 — following the announcement by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that the borders would reopen to fully vaccinated Americans on Aug. 9. “Given the outbreak and continued transmission and spread of COVID-19 within the United States and globally, the Secretary has determined that the risk of continued transmission and spread of the virus associated with COVID-19 between the United States and Canada poses an ongoing ‘specific threat to human life or national interests,” according to the notification posted to the Federal...

CANBERRA, Australia — Sydney’s two-week lockdown has been extended for another week due to the vulnerability of an Australia population largely unvaccinated against COVID-19, officials said on Wednesday. “The situation we’re in now is largely because we haven’t been able to get the vaccine that we need,” New South Wales state Health Minister Brad Hazzard said. The decision to extend the lockdown through July 16 was made on health advice, state Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.

With 60 days to go before the election, James O’Keefe, of Project Veritas, has dropped a bombshell: He’s got incriminating video exposing the ballot harvesting corruption that is the norm in Ilhan Omar’s Ward 6 in Minneapolis. It’s blatant, and it’s completely illegal. With the help of a courageous whistleblower, undercover video, and hidden camera videos, the latest Project Veritas video reveals that Omar’s campaign is up to its eyeballs in ordering absentee ballots for elderly people, filling out the ballots her favor or for someone else in her clan, and then submitting them. A lot of money changes hands...

Gov. Tom Wolf and health secretary Dr. Rachel Levine on Wednesday expanded on their previous order that everyone must wear masks inside businesses, saying masks are now required whenever anyone leaves home. It takes effect immediately. “This mask-wearing order is essential to stopping the recent increase in COVID-19 cases we have seen in Pennsylvania,” Wolf said. “Those hot spots can be traced to situations where Pennsylvanians were not wearing masks or practicing social distancing – two practices that must be adhered to if we want to maintain the freedoms we have in place under our reopening.” Wolf cited the Disease...

The president of the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association was critical of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s handling of violence throughout the state after some peaceful protests. President Thomas Mungeer wrote that he finds it “appalling” that the governor hasn’t condemned violence directed at State Police during “the riots across the state.” The letter continues, noting that members of the state legislature and governor’s administration have offered little support during ‘the riots across the state’. “I find it appalling that you have not condemned the violence directed at your New York State Troopers during the riots across the state,” he...

The White House on Sunday announced that the U.S. would bar entry of non-citizens traveling from Brazil, which has seen a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in previous weeks. The Trump administration “has determined that the Federative Republic of Brazil is experiencing widespread, ongoing person-to-person transmission” of the virus, according to a White House statement. Brazil reported over 347,000 COVID-19 cases as of Friday, second behind the U.S. in the number of infections, according to a Johns Hopkins University count. Brazil also has recorded over 22,000 deaths, which would make it the fifth-most in the world. There have been more...
