SUFFOLK, Va. — A man allegedly shot a pit bull while trying to help a woman who was attacked by the dog Wednesday around 12 p.m. The woman was in the 100 block of Chestnut Street when the dog reportedly latched onto her hand and would not let go. This is when the man, in an attempt to help the woman, shot the pit bull killing it, according to Suffolk Police. The woman was able to drive to the hospital for treatment. She has already been released from medical care. Police tell News 3 the incident remains under investigation.

An 18-month-old girl suffered serious wounds to her face when she was mauled by her grandmother’s pit bull — the second time the same dog attacked a child, officials said Sunday. The toddler was hospitalized, and may have also suffered an injury to one of her eyes in the attack. A man is recovering after he was attacked by his neighbor's dog. The attack happened near 35th and Gore around 8:00 a.m. Monday. An investigation is underway following the attack. An 8-month-old girl was bitten by a family pit-bull dog and died from her injuries Wednesday in Miramar, police said. The baby was in the care of a grandmother during the attack, Miramar Police Officer Yessenia Diaz said outside a home in the 2400 block of Kingston Drive. GREENVILLE, NC...The dog was in a fenced in backyard at 303 Cadillac Street and pushed his way out of the gate, according to GPD spokeswoman Kristen Hunter. Hunter says the gate was only secured by a cement block and that the dog made its way to the neighbor's front yard where it ended up biting the child's leg. The police spokeswoman says the child had a "pretty significant" injury. The owner of the dog, Tobisha Willoughby, was charged with a leash law violation, as well as given a rabies vaccination notice.
