It's crunch time in the volatile battle for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate, as Chuck DeVore and Carly Fiorina scramble to inherit voters peeling away from Tom Campbell as they become more familiar with his record and philosophy. Every bit helps in the final stretch of a fluid race, and it's my understanding DeVore will soon be announcing former San Diego Congressman Duncan Hunter, Sr., is endorsing him for U.S. Senate. Given that Hunter made his mark as an unwavering advocate for a robust national defense, his endorsement burnishes DeVore's argument that his national security credentials are an asset...

A new KPIX-TV CBS 5 poll of likely Republican primary voters finds that Carly Fiorina has shot to the top of the nomination race for U.S. Senate, and Meg Whitman has retaken a huge lead in the gubernatorial race, as well. But the latest poll, released Monday, shows Whitman recapturing the lead by 27 points with a 54%-27% advantage over Poizner -- a wild swing of 25 points in less than two weeks. The poll numbers for the Senate race show Fiorina with 46%, former Congressman Tom Campbell at 23%, and Chuck DeVore at 14%. This represents a 34-point net...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- DeVore for California today released the results of a campaign poll undertaken by Adam Geller of National Research, Inc. The poll, conducted among likely voters on May 19th and 20th, with a margin of error of +/-5%, revealed the following candidate standings in the Republican race for the nomination to face Barbara Boxer in November: Fiorina 28% Campbell 26% DeVore 19% According to this poll, all three Republicans are well within one anothers' margin of error, and the spread between first and last place is in single digits. These results are broadly consonant with most of...

Can this be for real? From Carly Fiorina's Twitter feed: @CarlyforCA Breaking news: Fiorina 46%, Campbell 23%, DeVore 14% according to new Survey USA poll. Proof that hard work pays off! This, I'm told by the Fiorina campaign, was just reported on television on L.A. The last SurveyUSA poll showed Fiorina trailing Campbell 35% to 24%, with DeVore in third at 15%. So, if true, this new poll would represent a huge swing--such a huge swing that I'm curious to see the actual poll.

Conservative supporters of Chuck DeVore seem outraged that Sarah Palin didn’t endorse their candidate for the California GOP Senate Primary race to take on Barbara Boxer in the November election. To them, it seemed like the likely thing for her to do and I know DeVore himself had asked for the nod. DeVore’s supporters are operating, to this day on the notion that their guy is the “one true Conservative in the race.” They run off of emotion and perception but they are omitting many facts about the Senate race and about Chuck DeVore himself with their analysis. I’m going...

Today in California, we’re seeing how desperate the NRSC’s handpicked candidate, Carly Fiorina, really is. Despite massive monetary advantages in her campaign, mostly thanks to writing herself checks and getting the blessing from the NRSC’s Rob Jesmer and his ilk, she still performs worse than Chuck DeVore against Barbara Boxer, and she’s lost the momentum in the race. So in a last ditch effort to win, her allies are using the Richard Blumenthal story to try to create a blatantly false perception of Chuck DeVore. Carly’s official campaign Twitter account complained just the other day about DeVore’s status as a...

WASHINGTON – Gubernatorial hopeful Meg Whitman and U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina have the chance to make history next month by becoming the first women to win the California Republican Party's nomination to the state's highest elected offices. But as their races head for the finish line, both are having a tough time closing the deal with likely female voters, who remain undecided in large numbers and appear poised to determine the outcome of both contests. Judith Brown, a 76-year-old Republican from Napa, says she won't be part of the history-making effort. Brown, a GOP voter for more than 40...

Republican Senate candidate Chuck DeVore said Friday that "the liberal media" had accused him of "a Blumenthal moment" — a reference to Connecticut Atty. Gen. Richard Blumenthal's admission this week that he had misspoken about his military record in the Vietnam War era. A Times report Friday said the Irvine assemblyman, who spent 24 years in the California Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve, mentioned during a March candidate debate that he was "shot at in Lebanon" without making it clear that the incident occurred in 1984 while he was a student and a reporter for the Orange County...

The LA Times tried to get in on the military fabulism angle yesterday in their own state, with a piece on Chuck DeVore — the conservative candidate in California’s Senate primary — accusing him of “fudging his war record”, as HotAir put it. But unlike Richard Blumenthal, I don’t think DeVore’s ever claimed to have a “war record” — he worked in the Pentagon and has a long National Guard career, and he’s now a military reservist. This passage in the LAT seems particularly unfair: [DeVore] spoke during the debate of being “shot at in Lebanon” but did not make...

In the audio you can clearly hear the Syrian gunfire in multiple bursts, getting louder as it gets closer to the IDF observation post. The Syrian positions were 180 meters away, according to the Israel Defense Force officers:. TRANSCRIPT An Israeli officer in a conversational tone, "Ahmed." Israeli soldier whistles, then yells, "Ahmed!" Someone says, "Pass the field glasses." I said, "Ahmed." Israeli soldier, "Kifhaallak!" (Gunfire.) Responses heard from the Israelis who ducked, as did I. More gunfire. I started laughing, and said, "We had a little bit of fire in here after the guy yelled, 'Ahmed.'" I then said,...

"The Great One" Endorsement of DeVore Written by Melanie Morgan Thursday, 20 May 2010 17:27 In case you missed it - a ringing endorsement in the California Senate primary race. JUNE PRIMARY With the June primaries less than a month away, the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination has significantly tightened. Although Meg Whitman (38%) still leads Steve Poizner (29%) among Republican primary likely voters, there has been a stunning drop in her support since March. In January, Whitman led Poizner by 30 points (41% to 11%) and in March by 50 points (61% to 11%). Today, three in 10 voters are undecided, up 6 points since March, but far lower than in January (44%). Republican primary likely voters include the 12 percent of independent (decline-to-state) voters who say they...

WASHINGTON — A pair of anti-tax groups on Thursday accused Republican Senate candidate Carly Fiorina of deceptively implying their endorsement in a campaign mailer sent to voters this week. The mailer primarily touts the endorsement Fiorina received recently from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. But the piece also includes a section with the header "Conservative Leaders Speak Out," using the names and logos of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the National Tax Limitation Committee, along with quotes criticizing one of her rivals for the GOP nomination, former Congressman Tom Campbell. Though the mailer does not claim an endorsement of...

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore made sure that the June 8 ballot described him as "Assemblyman/Military Reservist" because, the Irvine lawmaker said, he didn't want to be mistaken for just another politician. Throughout the campaign, DeVore has emphasized his service as a military officer and a young Reagan White House appointee at the Pentagon as experiences that helped make him the most qualified candidate. But at times he appears to have overstated those accomplishments, particularly his experience under fire and his role in the development of a U.S.-Israeli anti-ballistic-missile defense program. He also has faced criticism for acting on...

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina has issued a campaign mailer featuring quotes from Sarah Palin, the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the National Tax-Limitation Committee. It includes a photo of Palin as well as logos of the two fiscal conservative organizations. But only the former Alaska governor is backing Fiorina. Both the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association and the National Tax-Limitation Committee have endorsed Assemblyman Chuck DeVore,
