Recently, the nomination of Priscilla Owens has been stopped by another Democrat filibuster. To call attention to this outrage and demand that the Senate vote on these and other languishing nominees, a rally will be held at the Capitol this Friday, May 9, at noon. The location is the grassy area near the Senate across from the Russell Building off Constitution Avenue.In...

The combat in Iraq may be over, but political combat at home threatens to swell. Bitterness is likely to thrive for the duration of the Bush administration, not only because of domestic policy differences between the right and the left, but because of continuing anger on both sides stemming from their fight over the Iraq war. The warriors who supported Bush's Iraq policy, mostly on the right, are still facing off against the antiwarriors, mostly on the left. At first glance, this doesn't look like much of a fight. The antiwarriors mustered large demonstrations but were outmuscled by a Republican-dominated...

<p>Code Pink is more than just a group of female protesters opposed to the "testosterone-poisoned" war rhetoric it says has spewed forth from the White House.</p>
<p>We first wrote about these "purportedly peaceful ladies" last week, after a Maryland man claimed he was assaulted by Code Pink antiwar marchers — one of whom snatched his patriotic sign — at least six times. Code Pink's David Hoffman finds that charge hard to swallow.</p>

The DC Chapter of Free Republic learned through an anonymous source that Tim Robbins (actor, anti-war activist, significant other of Susan Sarandon) would be the guest speaker at a National Press Club luncheon on April 15, 2003. Accordingly, a few of us made plans to meet and greet Mr. Robbins when he arrived at the building to present his speech. I stepped out of my taxi a few minutes before Noon. The sidewalk outside the Press Club building was full of activity. There were people out enjoying the Spring weather, many going into the building, several cameramen waiting patiently, delivery...

A separate post will include my photos of the later FReep by about 10 intrepid FReepers who counterprotested the ANSWER group as they walked by the WashPost. This was a great day. Perfect weather, but a little breezy at times. Great rally and our later FReep of the ANSWER fools went well.If this works right, you...

KUWAIT (Reuters) - Senior Iraqi Shi'ite leaders said on Saturday that a radical Muslim group led by an ambitious young rival orchestrated the killing of cleric Abdul Majid al-Khoei in Najaf this week. Khoei was hacked to death by a mob at Imam Ali Shrine, the holiest Shi'ite site, days after he returned from exile in London to help Iraq make the transition to democracy. Iraqi Shi'ite leaders said Jimaat-e-Sadr-Thani, a splinter group led by Moqtada Sadr, the 22-year-old son of a late spiritual leader in Iraq, carried out Thursday's attack which left al-Khoei and another cleric dead. "The attackers...
