Capitol Rally to Support Pres. Bush's Judicial Nominees, Noon Friday, May 9, 2003

This Friday is the two-year anniversary of the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the D.C. Court of Appeals by President Bush.
Estrada's nomination is being filibustered by Democrats who will not allow the Senate to vote up or down on him. Recently, the nomination of Priscilla Owens has been stopped by another Democrat filibuster.
To call attention to this outrage and demand that the Senate vote on these and other languishing nominees, a rally will be held at the Capitol this Friday, May 9, at noon.
The location is the grassy area near the Senate across from the Russell Building off Constitution Avenue.
In case of rain, the event will be held in the LBJ room of the Capitol.
Please bring signs or buttons calling for an end to the Democrats' obstruction.
The Great One, Mark Levin, is scheduled to be the emcee for the rally.
The rally is being organized by the Coalition for a Fair Judiciary.

Take a long lunch if you must. This is a prelude to potential Supreme Court nomination battles. If these filibusters are allowed to stand, there will be chaos when/if President Bush makes nominations to the High Court.

If these filibusters are allowed to stand, there will be chaos when/if President Bush makes nominations to the High Court. Very important point. The pubbies in congress need to hold the dems feet to the fire on this one. I feel that they should make them actually fillibuster ala "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" but I don't see it happening.
Perhaps some media attention might get the voters riled up enough to start calling their Senators. I will be calling both of mine.
Unfortunately with work I cannot make any daytime events on short notice so I will not be able to attend.

I won't be able to make the daytime event; darned job keeps getting in the way! But give 'em heck for me, too!

If it just "mists heavily," as JVb likes to say, you guys should be OK. There is a heavy tree canopy (I learned that term here in TP) in the area where the rally is going to be.
But just in case, I'll say some prayers for a sunshiney day on Friday.
Darnitall anyway! I'll miss Mark Levin! I'm sure he'll have some choice comments to share, about the obstructors in the Senate.

I saw a report (on FNC I think) saying that health problems of two GOP Senators precluded forcing Dems to do the continous fillibuster.
Sen. Mitch McConell recently had a heart operation, whereas another GOP Senator had hip replacement. The TV report said that the continous fillibuster required GOP to have its Senators ready for quorum calls 24 hours a day, but those two Senators could NOT handle round the clock quorum calls.

Bump for a great turnout to embarrass Democrat Senators!
Sorry I will not be able to participate. I'm attending to my mother's "honey do" list in Jacksonville.

While a filibuster would seem to be more taxing on the side doing the talking, that isn't necessarily the case. The filibusterers need only one person in the Senate chamber at any one time, prattling away. The other side must make sure a quoruma majority of all senatorsis on hand, a constitutional requirement for the Senate to conduct business. If there's no quorum after a senator has demanded a quorum call, the Senate must adjourn, giving those leading the filibuster time to go home, sleep, and delay things even more.

While a filibuster would seem to be more taxing on the side doing the talking, that isn't necessarily the case. Right now I suspect that most Americans are unaware of what the Rats are doing with these judicial nominations. My hope would be that after about two days of Ted Kennedy blubbering away on C-Span, that at the very least, it would draw some attention to this and possibly open up some of the voters' eyes. The media is certainly not going to talk about the tactics the Dems are using - at least I have not seen much if any discussion of it by the mediots. Just rolling over and letting them get away with it is certainly not doing any good and only emboldens them to continue with these types of tactics.
