The War's Over, But the Fighting's Getting Worse (W. Post Mentions FR and Garofalo Awards Again)
The Washington Post ^ | Sunday, May 4, 2003 | Todd Gitlin

The combat in Iraq may be over, but political combat at home threatens to swell. Bitterness is likely to thrive for the duration of the Bush administration, not only because of domestic policy differences between the right and the left, but because of continuing anger on both sides stemming from their fight over the Iraq war.

The warriors who supported Bush's Iraq policy, mostly on the right, are still facing off against the antiwarriors, mostly on the left. At first glance, this doesn't look like much of a fight. The antiwarriors mustered large demonstrations but were outmuscled by a Republican-dominated government and overwhelmed by an eventual popular majority.

But this isn't the impression left by right-wing talk shows, Web sites and commentators. They portray the antiwar left as dangerous, feral and shockingly, awesomely effective. Accordingly, ultra-conservative rhetoric, already elevated before the war began, remains at high pitch -- a flaming red alert. A few examples:

SNIP

• FreeRepublic.com, a right-wing super-site based in Fresno, Calif., rails against "terrorist supporting leftists," and gives "Garofalo Awards" (after antiwar comedian/actress Janeane) for excessive defeatism about the Iraq war. (Prize: "a stuffed ready-to-eat crow on a silver platter.")

Something other than logic is at work here. Republicans, right-wingers at that, control every branch of the national government -- the White House, both houses of Congress, the Supreme Court and, increasingly, the lower federal courts. Why, then, this intense wounded rage?

Gee, why don't you tell us oh wise W Post person? Perhaps because of articles like this by left wingers?( right wingers control the lower federal courts? Hello?)

Don't the French have a sauce recipe to go with Crow?

I'm sure the heartburn crowd can find a recipe on the net...just type "Liberal tendency" in Google search.

From Todd Gitlin, sixties counter-culture radical and Marxist dialectician.

And is this not the second piece on the same theme to appear recently?

If Liberalism Is Such A Dead Horse, Why Beat It?, by Michael Skube, yet another journalism professor...

The hive is gathering its talking points, refining its strategy. Looks like they're going to play at playing possum for a while...

I get the sense that he thinks we should stop kicking them, because they're down.

Heh.

I think Nick Danger (post #9) has it right. The way the left is acting, we should serve them crow with "... fava beans and a nice Chianti."

We will not be silenced. We will remind the public of what the left says and does. We will speak out about the damage they have done and wish to do to this country.

From the article:
It is not part of the left's frame of mind to offer smart domestic security programs to counter Attorney General John Ashcroft's heavy hand. And perhaps most damaging, the left is not in the habit of proposing a constructive foreign policy.

Domestic Policy. Foreign Policy. Baseball analogy would be: Liberals suck at home, they suck on road trips. That spells losing season in any league (even in the sandlots where the dems play).

In politics what it works out to is they are not fit to lead. That anyone even seriously considers them for office is a miracle.

The dems don't belong on the hallowed playing field- not even as umpires. Their rightful place is in the cheap seats, the sparsely populated outfield bleachers- shagging foul balls for souvenirs, scrapping over the occasional home run, spitting at and taunting the outfielders for being rich and able, getting ejected...

Yeah, It's the same leftist morons that have taken California from 4 billion dollar surplus to a 34 billion dollar deficit!

The liberal leftist, anti-American freaks can't even balance a simple budget, and instead are doing their best to drive California into a financial ditch. Thank Gawd Gray Davis has murdered his own political future. California couldn't take anymore of his brand of leadership.

And to think they were going to run this clown for higher office!
