Despite the still high shooting numbers, calls to stop the gun violence in the city seemed to have an impact. A man shot and killed his 22-year-old son after an argument over who would walk a dog escalated into a shootout Sunday morning on Chicago's Far South Side, police said. Officers responded to a call of a person shot at a home in the 9100 block of S. Woodlawn Ave. at about 8:20 a.m. in the city's Burnside neighborhood.

CHICAGO - The godfather of a 15-year-old girl who was killed when a gunman opened fire on a group of young people in Chicago says she was a terrific student who had dreams of becoming a doctor or a lawyer. CHICAGO (CBS) – A teenage boy was shot about a block from President Obama’s home, in the second such incident in the past week. The 17-year-old boy was shot in the leg and buttock in the 5000 block of South Woodlawn Avenue about 4:20 a.m., police said. The shooting scene is about a block east of the heavily guarded street where the Obamas have a home in the Kenwood neighborhood.
