CHICAGO (WLS) -- It's been a violent holiday weekend so far in Chicago.
At least 41 people have been shot, nine fatally, since Friday evening. One of those shootings left a 5-year-old girl dead.
Despite the still high shooting numbers, calls to stop the gun violence in the city seemed to have an impact.
This holiday weekend's violence numbers, so far, are lower than last year's, when 53 people were shot, 11 fatally.
The long weekend is putting Mayor Brandon Johnson's summer safety plan to the test.
He spoke during a community walk over the weekend, criticizing previous administrations for what he calls a lack of investing in the city and its youth.
"They have run this city to the ground, but now, you have progressive leadership that's invested in people to building it up," Johnson said.
Last weekend, at least 45 people were shot, one fatally, in gun violence across Chicago, police said.

A few weeks ago, 41 were also shot, but only 1 fatally.
It seems a few weeks of practice, outdoors and in nice weather, really helps their accuracy.
Meanwhile, it was likely that nice and safe weekend to be shooting trap or skeet or sporting clays or handgun or rifle target practice or cowboy shoot, etc. in many other parts of the United States and Canada.

How come we never hear the left screaming about a mass casualty shooting in Chicago every week?
Why don’t they say anything about this in the news besides a two second mention on the evening news?
For that matter, this type of shooting occurs in many of the blue cities and states often. Why no concern from the left, blm, etc?

“Reign was sitting inside a parked car, and her father was standing outside when they were both hit by gunfire early Sunday morning. Chicago police said the shooting happened on South Campbell near Jackson just after 3:30 a.m.
“Reign later died after she was taken to the hospital.”
Did anybody ask the mom why her 5-year-old daughter Reign wasn’t in bed at 3:30 am?
