New York State Police have charged an Amherst woman with stealing Trump/Pence political signs off lawns in Clarence. Olivia Cinquinio, 19, is charged with petit larceny. Troopers responded to Brookhaven Drive just before 9 p.m. last night. While patrolling the area, the person who called police started following Cinquinio's vehicle on Main Street. State police stopped Cinquinio's vehicle after she turned onto Transit Road and found more than a half dozen signs inside. She confessed to taking signs off multiple yards, according to troopers. Cinquinio is due in Clarence Town Court on November 3.

I noticed something amusing about the signs at my local "United Democratic Campaign" headquarters in Morgan Hill, CA today. For most of the candidates, there was no party identification at all. Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom apparently are running as independents: Bill Monning and Forrest Williams appear to be as well. I stopped by a republican campaign headquarters today to pick up a Bush-Cheney sign. I was told by the worker there that many people had been coming in to get new signs because theirs had been stolen. Upon further questioning I was told that the reason these signs were being stolen is because people were being offered a dollar a sign. Who is offering the money for these stolen signs? Does anyone know anything about this happening in the Grand Rapids Michigan area? The worker thought the money was being offered by the unions--can this be true? If it is...

When I was young and growing up in Detroit, political signs were obvious. Sometimes the "Democrat" was larger than the pol's name. Now you need a magnifying glass to discover most politician's party affiliation, if it is there at all. Why are the politicians afraid to advertise their party? I know obfuscation is job 1 for most of them, but it would seem that they would have some pride in their party. Anybody have any ideas?
