A majority of Black voters in battleground states support Vice President Harris over former President Trump, according to new polling. A new Howard Initiative on Public Opinion survey found that 78 percent of registered Black voters across Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin said they would vote for Harris over Trump if the election were held today. That number increased to 82 percent among likely voters. Only 12 percent of likely voters said they would vote for Trump in November. An overwhelming 96 percent of likely voters said there was a slight to no chance they would...

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife, La’Quetta, the city’s superintendent of schools, have been indicted on child endangerment and other charges for allegedly beating their teenage daughter on numerous occasions, prosecutors said Wednesday. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said the indictment was made Tuesday by a grand jury that accused the couple of child endangerment. Self-professed “progressive” Chicago Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson got an earful over his failed migrant policies from an elderly black resident at a recent town hall. The woman, who said she was 80 years old and grew up in the Jim Crow South, said that Johnson’s pro-migrant policies are literally destroying the Windy City’s black communities. “All I can say to you is that you are a disgrace,” the distraught woman said at the outset of her comments. “I’m an 80-year-old woman, and I’ve never seen anything like this. I grew up in the Jim Crow South, and the policies that...

Rep. Jonathan Jackson (D-IL), son of civil rights activist Jesse Jackson, got an earful at a recent town hall event as black residents of his district blasted him for his support of the tens of thousands of illegal migrants flooding into the Windy City. During the town hall, the Illinois First District Representative was confronted by a resident on the migrant issue and Jackson made a vain attempt to turn the tables on the man by saying, “Can you help me with the solution you’d like to see me do?” The resident in the audience did not hesitate for a...

Black activists at the California assembly threatened a “direct impact” on Vice President Harris’ presidential campaign after state Democratic lawmakers held off on two bills that would have greenlighted slavery reparations. Last week, the California legislature approved proposals allowing for the return of land or compensation to families whose property was unjustly seized by the government, and issuing a formal apology for laws and practices that have harmed Black people. But none of those bills would provide widespread direct payments to African Americans. After hours of heated debate and protests on Saturday, state lawmakers left out two bills – Senate...

Former CNN host Don Lemon said Monday on MSNBC’s “Inside” that many black voters think former President Donald Trump is on their side, and many did not know Vice President Kamala Harris. Lemon said, “It was certainly eye-opening to hear so many people, even people of color and women, saying they are going to support Donald Trump. I am not quite sure that the polls are accurate as it relates to the tightening of the polls and who will support whom. He continued, “Right-wing media, when I released my content, they said Don Lemon was shocked or surprised at the...

A flurry of black bear attacks has been covered in the media in the summer of 2024. Five people were injured in the attacks. The first occurred in Alaska at a campground near Anchorage, by a male bear. The bear injured a woman’s face after scratching and biting its way into the couple’s tent. She was treated at a hospital. There was no food or other items that usually attract bears inside the tent and it’s not clear what prompted the rare encounter, Wardlow said. “These folks who were involved did everything right and this is just a very unusual...

Traditionally linguists have bemoaned the fact that the general public knows little of what we do because the subject isn’t taught in schools. But that has changed over the past 20 years or so, as the internet and especially social media have been so effective at getting the word out. I have rejoiced to see the public becoming ever more hip to the fact that language always changes, that you aren’t handicapping your child by raising them to be bilingual, that the way I just used “them” does not spell the fall of our Republic.Twenty years ago I never thought...

A Georgia activist stole the show after being introduced by former President Trump at his rally in Atlanta Saturday. Trump invited Michaelah Montgomery up on stage toward the end of his speech at the Georgia State University Convocation Center. He introduced Montgomery by explaining he met her at a restaurant this year. Trump said Montgomery, who attended Clark Atlanta University, had recognized him in public and commended him for funding historically Black colleges and universities. “She looks at me, says ‘It’s President Trump. You saved my college.’ And I said, ‘How the hell do you know that?’ … This one...

CNN anchor Michael Smerconish called black men who felt Kamala Harris is not really black 'low information voters.' In the clip, a local journalist was speaking to black men at a barber shop when some said the didn't think Harris was black. But Smerconish was quick to correct them, with a disparaging label. 'When I played that audio on my SiriusXM radio program on Thursday, many callers...

A group of Black men at a barbershop in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, voiced their skepticism on Kamala’s racial identity. This comes as Harris has frequently identified as Indian-American throughout her political career and even during her campaign for vice president. President Trump is right. Former President Trump is facing fierce blowback from his line of attack questioning Vice President Harris’s Black identity, risking his efforts to court more Black voters in November. The former president drew shock and outrage from members of the Black community after claiming Harris, who is biracial, had “turned Black” after identifying only as Indian for years. Harris has repeatedly referenced her Black and Indian cultural background in her years in the political spotlight. The fallout online from the interview at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention was swift, with some experts arguing the comments will damage Trump...

Black voters who attended Donald Trump’s rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, last weekend said that the former president “is for everybody” and that their beliefs are based on “morals,” not “skin color.” Speaking with Fox News reporters at Trump’s first campaign rally since the assassination attempt against him in Pennsylvania, Anthony from Kalamazoo said Democrats “take us for granted.” “When we speak, they don’t listen,” he added. While Biden won 87 percent of the black vote in 2020 compared to Trump’s 12 percent, the Democrats’ hold on minority voters has been slipping. A recent CBS News/YouGov poll revealed that Biden’s...
