Hardy is a highly-trained U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agriculture Detector dog and he sniffed out the roasted pig’s head in the luggage of a passenger traveling from Ecuador at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Oct. 11. [P]ork and pork products from other continents are not allowed into the United States in an effort to avoid introducing foot and mouth disease, classical swine fever and other animal diseases. CBP Area Port Director Carey Davis hailed Hardy’s work as illustrating “the tremendous expertise of our four-legged K-9 partners in protecting the United States.” Hardy has worked at Atlanta’s airport since 2015,...

When two people come together to form a relationship there are often adjustments in lifestyle that must be made by both parties. Recently, a man in Virginia was told by his girlfriend that she didn’t care for his dog, giving him the ultimatum that he must choose between her and the animal. So the man posted an ad to Craigslist explaining the situation and searching for a new home for his soon-to-be ex-companion.The ad read:“MY girlfriend does not like my beagle Molly. SO I have to re-home her. “She is a purebred from a wealthy area and I have had...

Britain's Beagle 2 lander has finally been spotted, 12 years after it went missing while trying to land on the surface of Mars History books will need to be rewritten after scientists announced today that Beagle 2 has been finally been found on Mars, 12 years after it vanished without trace. The beleaguered spacecraft, which has become a byword for mission failure, was spotted by scientists operating the HiRise camera on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO). It was discovered just 5km from its original touchdown site in the Isidis Planitia basin. And it appears that just one faulty motor was...

Police spent much of Tuesday searching for a fugitive. During the search West Virginia State Troopers and the Mason County Sheriff's Department said they had to shoot and kill a woman's dog. Police spent almost 12 hours searching for Johnathon Jeffers, but with no luck. At one point during the search, police came out of the woods and onto Ginger Sweats’ property in Mason County. She has no ties to Jeffers, but was immediately caught up in the search when officers said they had to fire their guns. Accompanied by the dog she has left, Sweat was still trying to...

A beagle returned home with an unusual find that has led to a criminal investigation in the town of Gallup, New Mexico: a human skull. The dog found the remains Saturday evening and carried them home. Its owner, who lives on the west end of Gallup’s airport, then alerted authorities, John Allen, deputy police chief, told msnbc.com. Police have determined the skull was from an individual believed to be a man, roughly 35 to 45 years old, who probably died about three years ago, Allen said. Police decided to search a field around where the beagle lives since they figured...

Some residents at Danville Park Apartments are outraged over police firing at two dogs on the walkway outside their front doors. The residents said the shooting killed one animal, injured another and put the tenants in danger of gunfire that left bullet holes in doors, walls and a wooden deck around 2 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Witness accounts of the shootings contradict the reports of officers and a supervising sergeant. The shootings by officers Demetrius Hightower and Jarrod Birchfield are being reviewed by Decatur Police’s office of professional standards, police spokesman Lt. John Crouch said. Danville Park resident Steven...

The miracle dog who wagged his tail after surviving a gas chamber has found a permanent home. Daniel, a beagle mix named by animal control workers in Alabama after the biblical figure who survived the lion's den, joined four other rescued dogs at a home 1,000 miles away in New Jersey. ... Mr Dwyer said he and his family had two ‘meet-and-greets’ with Daniel before being approved for adoption, and the dog has become fast friends with the Nutley family's other four pooches. They have two dachshunds, a beagle mix and a pit bull mix. ‘By Thursday evening they were...

The animal-control officer loaded the dogs, one by one, into the death chamber. Four or five were facing their final moments of life as Cody Berry did what he had to do. 'It’s the toughest part of the job,' said Berry, who has spent the last five months working for the Animal Control Department in Florence, Alabama. Berry turned the key and pressed a button. A light came on, and carbon monoxide seeped into the chamber. Unnamed and unwanted, the young beagle mix was left anonymously in a drop box outside an Alabama pound. His life was supposed to end...

I found this old shot from about 1990. It shows Longrifle Mountain Sunshine, Longrifle Abraham and Longrifle Beozle. Beozle was my original stud, out of the Omena Black Friday line. My dogs ran toward the upper size limit for AKC, deep chested long legged brush busters. They would hit the ground hunting and hunt 'til they dropped.I used to take Sunshine with me when I hunted deer in Georgia. She would slow trail a deer, always seemed to know what I wanted her to do. I was driving to Georgia with a friend one day, Sunshine was sitting between us....

Dec 2, 2009 — Field geologists have revisited a site Darwin visited on the voyage of the Beagle, and found that he incorrectly interpreted what he found. A large field of erratic boulders in Tierra del Fuego that have become known as “Darwin’s Boulders” were deposited by a completely different process than he thought. The modern team, publishing in the Geological Society of America’s December issue of the GSA Today,1 noted that “Darwin’s thinking was profoundly influenced by Lyell’s obsession with large-scale, slow, vertical movements of the crust, especially as manifested in his theory of submergence and ice rafting to...

SIERRA VISTA — In Ralph and Marie Brymer’s household, an unlikely relationship has developed between a 10-month-old beagle and an 8-week-old kitten. Within days of bringing home the kitten, Satchel, about two weeks ago from the Huachuca City Animal Control Shelter, Ralph caught the beagle, Bandit, nursing Satchel. The motherly relationship has only continued to develop. We couldn’t even get him to eat kitten food,” Ralph said of the when they first brought the kitten into their home. “When he gets a chance, as you can see, he nurses. “Bandit just takes care of him as if he’s her own.”...

Here is a finding that amounts to falsification of Darwinism and confirmation of creationism (limited variation within created kinds), and these authors tiptoed around the bad news with carefully-crafted passive verbs built on the assumption that evolution might explain it somehow, provided you are willing to wait for the vaporware and futureware that is perpetually on back order. “Their functions and origins are often obscure,” we are told. They “emerged” somehow...

NEW YORK (Feb. 12) - Uno the beagle turned Madison Square Garden into his own big, green backyard. He barked and bayed. He nipped at a newly printed sign. He tried to grab his leash. He took a flying leap at a piece of filet mignon. "Snoopy would be proud," handler Aaron Wilkerson said Monday. "He was being his merry little hound self." He also did something out of character: He became the first beagle to win the hound group at the Westminster Kennel Club show since 1939 — that's 483 years, in dog years. America's top dog competition has...

Beagle 2 probe 'spotted' on Mars By Pallab Ghosh BBC science correspondent Three dark triangular features in the centre could be airbagsThe scientist behind the British Beagle 2 mission to the Red Planet says the craft may have been found in pictures of the Martian surface. Colin Pillinger says the images suggest the mission very nearly worked, but Beagle somehow failed to contact Earth. He thinks the craft may have hit the ground too hard - as the atmosphere was thinner than usual because of dust storms in that region of Mars. This may have damaged onboard instruments, preventing the...

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain and the European Space Agency said Monday they had learned from the failure of the Beagle 2 mission to seek out life on Mars, but kept a report on the high-profile flop tightly under wrap. The Beagle 2, named after the ship Charles Darwin sailed in when he formulated his theory of evolution, was built by British scientists for about $89.46 million and hitched a flight to Mars aboard the European Space Agency's orbiter Mars Express. Beagle was due to crash into Mars in a bouncing ball of airbags and begin looking for signs of life...
