Spot, the service dog belonging to an 8-year-old autistic boy, is home.
"Words are indescribable, really," said Rebekah Bowe, whose son, D.J., has been despondent since Spot went missing on Oct. 24. "It is a relief, a big relief."
A man apparently found Spot while attending a party in Grand Prairie on Oct. 24. He later gave the Walker Coonhound to his mother, who has been taking care of the dog.
The woman called 911 Monday night after reading an article in the Star-Telegram and watching a news report about the missing service dog. A Grand Prairie police officer went to the woman's house and then later called Bowe and said he was "99 percent sure" he had Spot.
The officer then took Spot to Bowe's house in south Grand Prairie.

I have a treeing walker coonhound. Beautiful dog. Fun, smart, but sort of high maintenance.

I know. I caught myself before I polluted a good story by alluding to that troubling resemblance. Who knows though, wives of Messiahs might just be omnipresent as well. Get used to it.
Many, many years ago I had a young Walker hound. I lived in Louisiana at the time, far back in the woods, and in Louisiana it’s legal to deerhunt with dogs. My Walker disappeared the opening day of deer season that year and I never found hide nor hair of him. I still miss that dog. He was a beauty.
Yes, they are great dogs. I am so happy for this little boy and his dog. What wonderful news.
