To think this gang was so proud of the cowardice behaviour that they shared it on Snapchat makes me sick to my stomach. The scary thing is it happened in the middle of the day, in front of bystanders who did nothing to help the defenceless child. How could you witness such a thing happening to a little girl and refuse to intervene? I’ve spoken to the victim’s mother, and she says the worst part of it wasn’t even shared, moments later they dragged her daughter off the bench and stomped on her. They hospitalised their victim who sustained numerous...

Christopher Columbus' accounts of the Caribbean include harrowing descriptions of fierce raiders who abducted women and cannibalized men - stories long dismissed as myths. But a new study suggests Columbus may have been telling the truth. Using the equivalent of facial recognition technology, researchers analyzed the skulls of early Caribbean inhabitants, uncovering relationships between people groups and upending longstanding hypotheses about how the islands were first colonized. One surprising finding was that the Caribs, marauders from South America and rumored cannibals, invaded Jamaica, Hispaniola and the Bahamas, overturning half a century of assumptions that they never made it farther north...

A Sumatran tiger hangs, dead and disemboweled, from a ceiling in a public hall in a remote village in northern Indonesia. A photograph shows the lifeless animal strapped to a wooden plank — and dozens of villagers crowded around to see it. It’s not certain why the critically endangered animal was slain Sunday in a village in North Sumatra, but local news reports say it had mauled at least one or two residents who had followed it to its lair — to determine whether it was a mythological, supernatural being. The Jakarta Post reported that superstitious villagers feared it was a...

A woman was raped, whipped and beheaded before a cheering mob in the Democratic Republic of Congo — as punishment for dishing up “forbidden fish” to a group of rebels who then drank her blood. The atrocity in the main square of Luebo, in the province of Kasaï-Occidental, occurred on April 8 and was captured in stomach-churning video that only emerged this week, France 24 reported. The naked woman is seen being dragged in front of a crowd by members of an armed group claiming allegiance to the Kamuina Nsapu rebel movement. “They said she gave them beans that contained...

VRINDAVAN, India (CNN) -- Ostracized by society, India's widows flock to the holy city of Vrindavan waiting to die. They are found on side streets, hunched over with walking canes, their heads shaved and their pain etched by hundreds of deep wrinkles in their faces. Hindu widows are shunned from society when their husbands die, not for religious reasons, but because of tradition -- and because they're seen as a financial drain on their families.
