I just watched DC local news on channel 5 in DC. An interview with a witness from the plane crash at the Pentagon said that after the initial collision by the American Airlines plane, he saw a second plane, which he described as a four prop gray plane. This second plane, according to the witness, was not following one of the familiar approach paths to National, but rather headed straight toward the Pentagon, as if it intended to collide with it. At the last minute, the prop plane reportedly pulled up and flew away. I'll try to find corroborating reports.

Sorry for the vanity, but I have not noticed the question discussed. Just why are the doors to the pilot cabins on commercial aircraft subject to forceable entry? Why have they not been made totally impenetrable, and made of sturdy enough material so that they cannot be kicked in? It seems that as long as the doors are vulnerable, what happened today can be repeated ad infinitum, and probably will. I also assume that the pilots have rules to not open the door under any circumstance. If they don't, that is itself a problem.
