I Urge An End To Calls For Retaliation Against "Islam"

I urge that we keep the high road. This kind of tripe is unworthy of those who would fain lay down their lives for the Freedom and Liberty for which this Republic of ours is justly famed.

Bump. Perhaps some are just getting caught up in the emotions of the moment. But such is still inexcusable.

Please, keep your cool, and watch what you say. Blanket indictments of an entire religion, broad, sweeping condemnation even for the innocent, will simply help the enemies of FR write us all off as a bunch of racists.

Yes, I know they'll say that anyway. But do you want them to actually be able to back it up, with quotes taken in context?

I mean, come on. Posts calling for "the destruction of Islam", and declaring war on "all Moslems", and taking quotes of the Koran out of context (without noting that the quotes are imperfect translations of its native Arabic text) are a bit over the top.

Criticism of faults in the Middle Eastern culture and government that allowed these atrocities to happen is fair game. Condemnation of those guilty, is beyond fair game, it is a must. But, remember, everyone is innocent until proven otherwise, beyond a reasonable doubt. It we hold that concept sacred to judge people within our own country, it should extend beyond.

I have posted this on several threads. I have not gotten a response. And, Illbay, while I firmly believe that you are motivated by high ideals and strong convictions...until I get an answer to my question below, I must make some conclusions...

I have a question. Lots of posters say that there are "good" moslems. That islam is not a violent religion, and does not condone terrorism.

We know that moslems can declare a "Fatwa". Bin Laden and Arafat have promulgated and used terror, and killed innocent men, women, and children. If in fact their religion rejects such acts, when will a fatwa be declared against these vermin? Surely, their actions besmirch Islam to a far greater extent than did the novelist Salman Rushdie - who was rewarded with a death sentence in a fatwa.

Unless, of course, all of Islam doesn't really object to murderous terrorists....

So, please tell me. Why haven't they issued a Fatwa...or, for that matter, even condemned known terrorists such as bin laden and arafat?

There may be some social value to stereotyping. Many Muslims, if they are not the type to support terrorism, do not condemn it either, either from fear or apathy. If they think this slop is going backwash on them, it might give them some incentive to start rocking the boat in their own religious community. I am not so sure that the "We are nice people who only want to hurt the bad, guilty people" will provide that sort of stimulus.

Beyond the practicality of my suggestion, I don't believe that I am being too immoral here. Too many Muslims really have been quiet way too long. I don't propose over doing it, but maps of "New Texas" and generalized anger toward the Eastern world aen't necessarily bad.

This has little to do with the thread, but it's an indication of just how much things have changed.

I threw in a James Bond movie tonight, as I've been watching the terrorist stuff all week and needed a change. As the 'admiralty' was informed that a British intelligence ship had been sunk, the music got very serious, and the Kremlin appeared on the screen. It was hard to keep from laughing.

The Russians are no longer the mortal enemy. While we've distanced ourselves from their nation, they still hold religious and family values that the West embodies. We have a new enemy. This post is right - it's not Islam, but a terrible minority subsection of it - that does not share our values and beliefs. And it will be much harder to destroy.

Oh, for God's sake. I urge an end to all calls for political correctness, and willful blindness to the threat to American lives posed by Islamic radicals living within our own borders.

Don't reduce legitimate concerns to "bigoted, racist" responses. That's an old trick overused by blacks and homosexuals. Grow up. Deal with the terrorists in our midst.

You ask a very good question. In fact, I saw a guy on Fox News earlier, from some American university, who was interviewed by Brit Hume.

He was defending Muslims from unfair attacks, but also suggested that they must do what you suggest. They must declare bin Laden and his ilk "infidels."
