...The usual story is that the fragments remained untouched for 880 years until the invasion by the Umayyad caliph Muawiya I. However, literary and geological evidence suggest a more complex, and more likely, story involving several reconstructions, finishing with a devastating earthquake in 142...The little we know about the statue comes from the frustratingly brief writings of Philo... Strabo... and Pliny... however none of these authors describe what it actually looked like, apart from its height. It is generally assumed that the head of Helios resembled that on Rhodian coins... and that it topped a rather austere vision of the...

This is the heartbreaking moment a man sent a last message to his wife seconds before the Azerbaijan Airlines was reportedly shot down before a crash that killed 38. Leroy Chiao, who was a commander on the International Space Station, had a near-collision with unidentified flying objects in the panhandle of Texas in August as he was flying from Colorado in a small airplane. “I was about 9,000 feet (in the air), and suddenly, out of nowhere, these two big metallic spherical orbs, one on top of the other...

Several dozen anti-Israel activists protested outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City on Christmas Day, continuing a practice in which they have targeted Christian symbols and the Christmas holiday over the last 15 months. Last year, activists chanted “Christmas is canceled” and rioted in New York. They also shut down a key highway in Chicago leading to O’Hare International Airport, and disrupted Christmas shopping in Memphis, Tennessee.

The soldiers riding on the back each carried a carbine. While I watched from a few hundred yards away, they did a "reverse starburst," that...
