Sleepy Eye, Minnesota — Carrying a Beretta shotgun, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz trekked through tall straw-like grass for three hours on Saturday for opening day of the state's pheasant hunting season, but didn't get one shot off despite his efforts. "There's good days and there's great days pheasant hunting," Walz said when the day wrapped up. Scott Rall, a friend of the governor who he often hunts with, made the sole kill on Saturday. Recovering the body of the birds was a top priority in the instructions given to the hunting party, but no one was able to find the...

Do any FReepers have experience with cell phone extenders such as the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Network Extender ASK-SFE116? This is not a repeater, instead, it works through and existing Ethernet Connection to your computer / the Web, and functions like a little "mini-tower" in your home. I did find this useful vid: https://www.verizon.com/support/verizon-lte-network-extender-setup-video/ However, I've not found much info. regarding range. My guess is that it is similar to a typical Wi-Fi router. Unfortunately these "extenders" do not connect via a Wi-Fi router.) It also appears activation can be a problem if buying a used unit, as evidently the...

Cindy Miller wasn’t sure where to begin the cleanup this weekend at her home in Englewood, Fla. Hurricane Milton had drenched her home and dumped debris everywhere. Much of it was not even hers. A sofa, doors and shoes littered the backyard, along with detritus that remained from Hurricane Helene, the deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland in nearly two decades.“You work all your life to live in paradise and a hurricane comes and kicks you right in the butt,” said Ms. Miller, 70, who retired to Florida 15 years ago.Around 700 miles north, in the rugged, craggy version...

California officials have been working for months on a plan to “Trump proof” the state’s leading edge environmental and climate policies, in the event that former President Donald J. Trump returns to White House and follows through on his promise to gut them.Whether California succeeds could affect more than a dozen other states that follow its emissions rules, and could have global impact because the state’s market muscle compels auto makers and other companies to conform to California standards. The strategy now being crafted in Sacramento includes lawsuits designed to reach wide-ranging settlements with industries that generate greenhouse gases, and new...

In the final weeks of the 2024 election, Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump are staking their chances on two radically different theories of how to win: one tried-and-true, the other untested in modern presidential campaigns. Ms. Harris’s team is running an expansive version of the type of field operation that has dominated politics for decades, deploying flotillas of paid staff members to organize and turn out every vote they can find. Mr. Trump’s campaign is going after a smaller universe of less frequent voters while relying on well-funded but inexperienced outside groups to reach a...

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Elders at First Bible Church of Tuscaloosa recently placed the church's head pastor Bob "Jimbo" James on leave after he gave a sermon without incorporating even one single college football analogy.According to congregants at First Bible, congregants became concerned when Pastor Jimbo began to approach the 30-minute mark of his sermon without having mentioned the comeback over South Carolina, Coach DeBoer, or even saying "Roll Tide.""Things were getting a bit edgy," said Marty Travis, a member of First Bible Church and Crimson Tide alumnus. "He had such an easy opportunity to say how the inseparable operations of...

The reason thieves are targeting EV charging cables is because they contain copper wiring. The price of copper is near a record high on global markets, so criminals stand to collect rising sums of cash from selling the material. But while it costs $1,000 to replace a charging cable, authorities say, thieves only stand to make $20 reselling the metal. Thieves have been caught on camera in Seattle targeting an EV charging station on the edge of a shopping center parking lot. CCTV footage shows them using bolt cutters to snip several charging cables and load them into a truck...

Michelle Obama's get out the vote organization is attempting to fire up the Democrat base for Kamala Harris just days after husband Barack hit the campaign trail for the vice president. The former first lady, who often stays out of public campaigning, is trying to excite liberals with concerts and other events featuring well-known Democrat supporters through When We All Vote's Party at the Polls program. Each event is in one of the key seven swing states that most experts believe will decide the race between Harris and Donald Trump. Much of When We All Vote's work culminates is a...

US air marshals are so distracted tracking Jan. 6 suspects and other domestic threats that they are not devoting enough resources to policing the thousands of migrants flying around the country without IDs, sources say. A TSA employee told The Post that Americans “should feel horrible” and “threatened” about the terrifying situation. “None of the people that are coming through the border who are getting flight tickets are getting vetted by hardly any manner,’’ while US citizens are being forced to tightly adhere to airport security’s stringent ID requirements, the source said. Meanwhile, federal air marshals have orders to focus...

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Honored for his devotion to a basketball team that doesn’t have a Hall of Fame history, Billy Crystal couldn’t help but note the irony. “How strange to be getting a ring before any of the Clippers,” he said. Goldstein SuperFan Gallery and took part in a ceremony Sunday along with fellow entertainer and filmmaker Spike Lee and Philadelphia businessman Alan Horwitz. Longtime Lakers fan Jack Nicholson is also being added but the three-time Academy Award winner was not able to attend.

I’ve listened to Bob Dylan’s anthem of alienation, Like a Rolling Stone, so many times throughout my life, but it’s never hit home quite the way it does now as I’ve been exiled by almost everyone I once knew. How does it feel, Bob Dylan asks? It feels like tumbling through space with no place to land. It feels like being trapped in a nightmare. It feels like nothing I’ve ever gone through before. But it’s too late to turn back now. It’s full steam ahead. Yes, I am a California Liberal voting for Donald J. Trump. Why am I...
