Key Points: As the East&Gulf coast ports strike hits day three on Thursday, there are multiple signs of supply chain stress building. Thousands of shipping containers were potentially dumped at the wrong ports as ocean carriers scrambled to find alternate options for cargo, and increased tracking of diverted vessels is a direct challenge to an ILA-union threat to stop unloading at other ports. Surcharges imposed by shipping giants are starting to mount, and the need to use inland transportation options like trucking and rail for diverted cargo are adding to costs. A major grocery chain CEO tells CNBC that while...

Even though states across the southeastern U.S. are still reeling from Hurricane Helene's destructive path, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) "does not have the funds" to get through hurricane season. On "Fox & Friends First" on Thursday, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody shredded the secretary over the comments, pointing out the more than $1 billion spent on migrants. ASHLEY MOODY: Everyone should be waking up this morning outraged by that comment. This is not something that has just happened recently. And Florida's been warning about this since this administration took over. Mayorkas...

Tina Peters, a former county election official in Colorado, was sentenced Thursday to 8½ years in prison and six months in jail after being found guilty of charges connected to efforts to copy election data from her office as Donald Trump and his allies spread false claims that the 2020 election was stolen and searched for evidence to prove it. Judge Matthew Barrett, who presided over the sentencing, also ordered Peters, the former Mesa County clerk, to pay thousands of dollars in fines. Explanation: The second solar eclipse of 2024 began in the Pacific. On October 2nd the Moon's shadow swept from west to east, with an annular eclipse visible along a narrow antumbral shadow path tracking mostly over ocean, crossing land near the southern tip of South America, and ending in the southern Atlantic. The dramatic total annular eclipse phase is known to some as a ring of fire. Still, a partial eclipse of the Sun was experienced over a wide region. Captured at one of its earliest moments, October's eclipsed Sun is seen just above the clouds near sunrise in this...

A list published by GOBankingRates is going viral because it shows just how much it costs to live in America’s 50 biggest cities in 2024’s economy. The list, put together by measuring data from US Census, Zillow, BestPlaces and the Bureau of Labor Statistics, determines “living comfortably” as needs not exceeding 50% of one’s income. This is known as the 50-30-20 rule or plan, where 50% of one’s income meets the costs of living, 30% is expendable, and 20% remains in savings. Of the top eight most expensive cities in the US, California’s biggest population hubs take up a whopping...

Much has already been written about Tuesday night’s debate between the two Vice Presidential hopefuls. Tim Walz has had a long love affair with China. Below I will address his attempt to excuse his lie during the debate about being in China during the Tiananmen Square “protests.” Not only did he try to minimize the lie, but he attempted to pass off the murder of innocents as “democracy protests,” without mentioning that his Chinese friends used tanks to massacre innocent, non-violent protesters so that others would get the message.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris announced on Wednesday that the federal government will provide a $750 payment to hurricane victims affected by recent flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. The announcement comes amid reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has nearly exhausted its disaster relief funds. The $750 payment is intended to help individuals and families who have lost homes and personal belongings in the aftermath of the storm. However, concerns have been raised about the adequacy of the assistance, with critics arguing that the sum is insufficient to meet basic needs like food, water, clothing, and temporary...

New York-based art dealer Allen Treibitz said he was at a barn sale in the Hamptons when the painting, which depicts a carved grizzly bear at the top of a totem pole, caught his eye. Punishing hours, dilapidated facilities and an ill-conceived retiree program left the agency without the personnel it needed in a year of threats and violence. In November, Michael Ebey, a Secret Service special agent, found himself working another 12-hour shift. Like so many before, it was grueling. This time, he was part of the detail providing protection for President Biden at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Pangs of fatigue snaked up his legs from hours of standing on a concrete floor of the Moscone Center in San Francisco, about 3,000 miles from his home.“I got to the point where I just said,...

Countering the patriarchy argument, an extraordinary and remarkable natural experiment that demonstrates the lack of discrimination in the differences in pay between men and women was conducted by researchers at Stanford University using data from over one million Uber drivers. The results of the study show unequivocally that the “entire gap” can be explained by factors unrelated to discrimination: The Stanford team concludes: "Even in the absence of discrimination and in flexible labor markets, women’s relatively high opportunity cost of non-paid work time and gender-based differences in preferences and constraints can sustain a gender pay gap." A study by two...

As a candidate for president once again, Donald Trump could not be clearer about his plans to use the Justice Department to seek revenge against his enemies. During his 2016 campaign, his rallies exploded with the chant “Lock Her Up.” Now Trump talks about ordering prosecutions against so many people that his threats have become commonplace. “WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences,” Trump posted online in September about election administrators, among others. It’s just one example in a long list that extends...
