new planet-wide electric field that is as fundamental to Earth as gravity has been discovered in a major scientific breakthrough. The ambipolar electric field, which begins 150 miles above the planet, has been described as a “great invisible force” that lifts up the sky and is responsible for the polar winds. The polar winds interact with the jet streams to help drive the majority of weather patterns across the globe. Until now, the field had only been theorised, but a Nasa team, which includes scientists from the University of Leicester, has now sent a rocket into the field and measured...

Day #11 of the Top 50 songs on my iTunes playlist -- ranked in reverse order by play frequency from #50 to #1 and presented here on a series of FR threads. I'm posting them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the next couple of months. I only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so it will take at least ten weeks to do this. And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post...

The Center Square) – The California legislature passed a bill banning local governments from adopting voter identification laws for local elections. California does not require identification to vote, but earlier this year, the City of Huntington Beach approved a voter ID requirement for municipal elections starting in 2026. This bill would override Huntington Beach’s policy. “An overwhelming body of evidence proves that voter ID laws only subvert voter turnout and create barriers to law abiding voters,” wrote bill author State Sen.

Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said Thursday on CNN “News Central” that it would be “insane” to criticize Vice President Kamala Harris over the change in her fracking position because there are new technologies. Host John Berman asked, “What’s your position senator, on fracking?” Murphy said, “I think increasingly we can do fracking in a safe way. It depends on site, it depends on the process. But I think anybody who serve his paid attention to the technological developments over the past several years understands that there are places that this can be done safely. I think you have to have...

    Ballot Access News5 ^ | 5August 28, 2024 | Richard Winger
Even though the petition deadlines for minor party and independent presidential candidates have not yet passed in most states, already eight minor party and independent presidential candidates are facing challenges to their ballot access. This is the highest number of such candidates in history. “Challenge” means an outside individual or group initiated an administrative action or a lawsuit to keep someone off the ballot. It does not mean that the state election office itself kept a candidate off the ballot. Generally, when challenges are mounted to a minor party or independent presidential candidate, only one such candidate is the target,...

Since 2018, Walz has attended multiple events hosted by members of the Chinese American Association of Minnesota (CAAM) and related organizations, including one 2022 fundraiser for his gubernatorial campaign... Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rise in the polls continues, with his Likud Party reaching the key threshold of 30 seats (out of 120) in a new poll by Israel’s center-right Channel 14. The poll, published Thursday, is the first poll since the Hamas terror attack of October 7 and the war that has followed to show the Likud Party at or above 30 seats — near the 32 seats it won in the November 2022 election, when it led a right-wing bloc to victory. The two major opposition parties continued to fall behind, as did their leaders. Netanyahu was...

The Sad Eyed Tyrants take your money with no care or concern for you and your family. The Sad Eyed Tyrants are the Democrats who make their money complaining. They complain that life hasn’t been fair to them. Things happened that were beyond their control that have grievously harmed them. They just can’t make the life that they want for themselves. They are in political commercials and news stories telling everyone their plight. And they always have sad eyes. You have to use your wits and your strength and your determination and your sacrifice and your education and your experience...

A group of about 20 migrants allegedly tried to enter a California school bus picking up students on Wednesday morning, district officials said. The incident was one of two that occurred at a bus stop for Jamul-Dulzura Union School District students, with three men previously trying to enter the school bus on Tuesday, Fox 5 reports. Superintendent Liz Bystedt said in a letter to parents that the group of migrants were walking in the middle of Highway 94 trying to stop one of the buses. Parents, however, were also at the site helping the bus driver ensure the students were...

A sheriff’s office in Southern California is investigating a series of incidents where illegal immigrants allegedly attempted to board school buses, in one instance blocking the road. At the same time, a Denver suburb is dealing with armed gangs from Venezuela that are allegedly taking over apartment complexes “block by block,” according to a local council member. The chaos led one prominent legislator to warn of Denver becoming a “lawless region” if law enforcement doesn’t act soon.

Explanation: A nearby star factory known as Messier 17 lies some 5,500 light-years away in the nebula-rich constellation Sagittarius. At that distance, this 1.5 degree wide field-of-view would span about 150 light-years. In the sharp color composite image faint details of the region's gas and dust clouds are highlighted with narrowband image data against a backdrop of central Milky Way stars. The stellar winds and energetic radiation from hot, massive stars already formed from M17's stock of cosmic gas and dust have slowly carved away at the remaining interstellar material, producing the nebula's cavernous appearance and the undulating shapes within....

According to a statement released by Stony Brook University, a team of researchers led by Krishna R. Veeramah of Stony Brook University analyzed the genomes of 28 individuals who were buried in a cemetery in Collegno, Italy, between the sixth and eighth centuries A.D. The scientists also examined the published genomes of 24 other individuals who were buried in the cemetery. Examination of the bones of these individuals offered additional information concerning their diet, health, and social status. Veeramah said that the earlier medieval elites, identified through their richer diets and elaborate burial items, were made up of families with...
