It was 17 years ago that a group of volunteers began to restore the Rancho San Andreas Castro Adobe, a structure whose endurance over its 176-year lifespan helps paint a picture of California history. Now fully restored and equipped with interpretative displays, touchable exhibits and multimedia offerings, the building is open monthly—including this Sunday, Aug. 11. Restoration efforts began in 2007, when volunteers made more than 2,000 adobe bricks by hand and recreated the kitchen, which is one of just four Mexican-era “cocinas” in the state, says Bonny Hawley, executive director of Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks, a nonprofit...

Moments after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. suspended his independent presidential bid and endorsed Republican candidate Donald Trump, members of his famous Democratic family weighed in with words of disappointment. In a scathing joint statement released on Friday, Aug. 23, five of Bobby's siblings — who are all children of the late U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy — publicly distanced themselves from his decision to join forces with Trump less than one year after leaving the Democratic Party. "We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future, a future defined by...

Anybody see that movie 'The Dead Zone'? In a crucial scene the evil politician sees an assassin trying to shoot him. He grabs a baby and puts it between the gun and himself. The assassin holds back because he will not shoot through a baby. The act is caught on camera and the evil politician loses his race because his cowardace is played over and over again. What Walz just did is his Dead Zone moment. Notice the hate on Walz's face as he tugs his son into line. Even though he knows multiple cameras are watching he can't control...

EU member state threatens to provide train tickets for refugees to travel directly to Brussels, sparking a massive outcry. A defiant minister of the country says ‘If Brussels wants migrants, they will get them.’ Hungary has escalated its argument with the European Union about the appropriate amount of migrants to welcome. The debate has been going on for a while. Hungary would transfer migrants to Brussels, according to a minister of Viktor Orban’s, if the EU keeps pressuring Budapest to take in more asylum seekers. ‘If Brussels wants more migrants, they can have them’ At a news conference on Thursday,...

The family of former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ripped his decision to endorse former President Donald Trump on Friday. “We want an America filled with hope and bound together by a shared vision of a brighter future, a future defined by individual freedom, economic promise and national pride,” the family said in a statement. “We believe in Harris and Walz. Our brother Bobby’s decision to endorse Trump today is a betrayal of the values that our father and our family hold most dear. It is a sad ending to a sad story,” they said: I am sharing...

Let me stipulate for the record: The American press is an embarrassment. Journalists are being unfair in their coverage. CNN and Politico and the New York Times and the Associated Press and NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt and NPR News are hyping Kamala Harris as the second coming and putting a thumb, two hands, and a 45-pound dumbbell on the scales in an attempt to prop her up. It also doesn’t matter. None of it is remotely decisive. The reason why the Republican Party is, at the moment, on track to lose the 2024 election is that the Republican...

Donald Trump thanked Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Friday after the scion of the legendary family offered him a dynamic-shifting endorsement. Kennedy stated Friday he is suspending his campaign but not ending it, urging residents of blue states to vote for him but throwing his support behind former President Donald Trump in battleground states. The distinction is important for Kennedy, whose candidacy was composed of supporters and volunteers from across the political spectrum. But Kennedy ripped Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris, while praising Trump Friday, and for all practical purposes, this is an endorsement, plain and simple.

Special Counsel Jack Smith reversed course in his quest to seek expedited hearings in his Washington, DC, case against former President Donald Trump. Smith sought the hearings to determine which actions that Trump allegedly took he could charge in his election interference case against the president. The Supreme Court’s July 1 decision that presidents enjoy partial immunity for actions taken in office in an official capacity spurred Smith to alter his approach. Before Smith relented in his latest push to expedite the increasingly shaky case, Judge Tanya Chutkan had planned to hold hearings in the fall to determine which of...

Phil Donahue died this week at age 88. He was an early adopter and strong proponent of the sexual revolution and abortion on demand. Millions of women tuned in every afternoon to hear his hard-left views decades ago. They were indoctrinated into liberalism after learning how their marriages were oppressive and their children burdens. My mom used to watch it after her "stories" wrapped up, and your mom probably did, too. Women would be further radicalized by popular magazines like "Cosmopolitan" and, for much younger women, "Seventeen." Later, Oprah Winfrey took up Donahue's mantle with a more feel-good New Age...

PHOENIX — Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s campaign told a Pennsylvania court that he will be endorsing former President Donald Trump, ahead of his own Friday afternoon announcement putting to rest a tumultuous independent presidential campaign. The filing in Pennsylvania, in a lawsuit related to a legal challenge to his own ballot access in the state, said that Kennedy was withdrawing from the ballot "as a result of today's endorsement of Donald Trump for the office of President of the United States."

Explanation: There is a quiet pulsar at the heart of CTA 1. The supernova remnant was discovered as a source of emission at radio wavelengths by astronomers in 1960 and since identified as the result of the death explosion of a massive star. But no radio pulses were detected from the expected pulsar, the rotating neutron star remnant of the massive star's collapsed core. Seen about 10,000 years after the initial supernova explosion, the interstellar debris cloud is faint at optical wavelengths. CTA 1's visible wavelength emission from still expanding shock fronts is revealed in this deep telescopic image, a...

After a Michigan couple indicated their intent to open a green cemetery, their local township passed an ordinance to forbid it. A judge found the rule< unconstitutional.A Michigan couple sued when their local township passed an ordinance to prevent them from opening a cemetery. This week, in a victory for property rights, a judge ruled in the couple's favor and threw out the ordinance entirely. As Reason reported in January, Peter and Annica Quakenbush wanted to open a "green" cemetery, allowing people to bury their loved ones in a natural and environmentally friendly manner, free of chemicals like formaldehyde and...

The U.S. Secret Service has placed at least five agents on leave, including the head of the Pittsburgh field office, as a result of its investigation into last month's assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. One agent on Trump's detail and three others in the Pittsburgh office were among those placed on leave, according to two federal law enforcement sources. It's unclear if all of these actions are disciplinary, since agents are routinely placed on leave during the course of investigations for various reasons, including mental health relief. The Secret Service's...

A new report from The Wall Street Journal reveals that “ESG” didn’t evaporate—it merely shifted into the shadows. As it turns out, the communist plot of the corporate globalists to bankrupt the West and enslave the world wasn’t a big hit with the people, so the executives promoting the scheme have given it up… but only in public. While it might seem like the brass of companies like Vanguard and BlackRock (operating as de facto and unelected politicians) bowed to the pressure and dissolved the notion of a corporate credit score and its associated policies, they simply adjusted fire, and...

CNN host Jake Tapper said Thursday on “The Lead” that when former President Donald Trump calls Vice President Kamala Harris lazy, it was a “racist trope about African-Americans.” Tapper said, “Former President Trump is at the border today blasting Vice President Harris, take a listen.” In Arizona, Trump said, “We had a border czar who was the border czar. She loved the title, but she didn’t want to do the work because she’s lazy and probably more importantly than being lazy, she wants have an open border.” Tapper said, “Lazy that’s a new one. I hadn’t heard him use that...
