Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) gave credit to Vice President Kamala Harris for getting help to Baltimore after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed during his speech at the Democratic National Convention. Moore, who entered gubernatorial office last year, gave Harris the shout-out after reflecting on the tragic cargo ship crash that led to the destruction of the bridge and the deaths of six maintenance workers. “A port that drives 13 percent of our state’s economy was now closed. Thousands of workers were hours away from waking up and realizing they no longer had a job,” Moore told the Wednesday...

Enrollment for Black and Latino students dropped at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the first class formed after the Supreme Court found race-conscience admissions in colleges unconstitutional. The university’s admissions department on Wednesday released its first-year class profile, showing a sharp drop in its Black student population. About 5% of MIT’s incoming class of 2028 is Black, a significant drop from its 13% average in recent years. Latino students make up 11% of the class of 2028, compared to a 15% average in recent years. Overall, 1,102 students make up the incoming class. Stu Schmill, MIT’s dean of admissions,...

Last June, Biden lifted the ban on American contractors sending mercenaries into Ukraine. When he lifted the ban on American weapons, allowing them to be deployed inside Russia, this was another step that de facto allowed these private American military operations to invade Russia pretending it is not the official United States. I have warned that the Neocons are scared to death of Trump, and if RFK joins Trump as the Attorney General, as I have been arguing behind the curtain, they are desperate to start World War III before the election. Sources are reporting that Stephanie Holmes, the US...

Less than a month ago, Justice Elena Kagan suggested the Supreme Court consider dialing back its review of significant cases on its controversial emergency docket. “Our summers used to be actually summers,” Kagan told a group of judges in California, lamenting the “relentless” filing of emergency appeals. “We’ve gotten into a pattern where we’re doing too many of them.” Since then, the Supreme Court’s emergency caseload has exploded. In coming days, the high court is expected to tackle short-fuse challenges to President Joe Biden’s latest effort to reduce student debt and to cut planet-warming pollution by limiting power plant emissions....

Kamala Harris takes the Chicago stage on Thursday in the culmination of one of the most audacious bets in recent political history: That in 100 days Democrats can turn the co-pilot of an unpopular Presidency into the reincarnation of Barack Obama’s movement for hope and change. On present course they might even pull it off. That’s the message that Michelle and Barack Obama were selling as they extolled Ms. Harris in their Tuesday speeches in Chicago. And it’s no accident that the Vice President has recruited Mr. Obama’s campaign operatives to advise, if not entirely take over, her campaign. Out...

On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) responded to criticism that 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris’ proposal to increase the corporate income tax will lower wages and raise prices by stating that “Kamala Harris’ position before had been let the Trump tax cuts expire. … If the tax cuts expired for corporations, it would go to 34%. Years ago, she had said she’s for that. She’s now really come to the center, pro-growth. She said, we’re going to keep some of those tax cuts and we’re going to double...

Queen guitarist Sir Brian May says new research shows cattle could be passing bovine tuberculosis (bTB) between themselves, and that badgers are not a significant factor in the spread of the disease. Sir Brian, 77, helped conduct the research presented in a new BBC documentary, and says his campaigning against badger culling to tackle bTB "has become as important to me as music". Cattle are regularly tested and destroyed if the disease is found, with more than 50,000 slaughtered in the UK between April last year and March this year. A leading vet said Sir Brian's findings could not be...

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem (8/22/24)[Prayer]Names and Titles of God the Holy Spirit (Lord) Psalm 139139 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I...

A Venezuelan migrant who attempted to gain access to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week was denied entry and turned away for not having acquired the proper credentials. It’s an interesting contrast when the same party that is actively pushing for wide open national borders is serious enough about their own security to put up fences and require IDs and credentials in order to walk among them. Steve Cortes took Edwin, a newly arrived migrant from Venezuela, to the United Center in Chicago to meet the Democrats, hear their speakers and learn about the party for himself. What...

You could never generate this amount of power yourself. Mammoth hunts would have been incredibly dangerous. Image credit: Esteban De Armas/Shutterstock.com North American hunter-gatherers may have developed an innovative method for killing Ice-Age megafauna like mammoths, according to the authors of a new study. Rather than throwing spears at their prey, members of the iconic Clovis culture might have used “braced shaft weapons”, or pikes, to inflict catastrophic injuries on their victims. “The key elements of the pike are a sharp tip for entering thick hide or armor and a long, sturdy shaft that could be braced in the ground...

In their study, Dr. Gaffney and colleagues say that new evidence of manually collected and processed 50,000-year-old tree resin shows that humans using sophisticated technological processes arrived on Waigeo Island, which lies along the northern route most suited for human expansion into Australia, as much as 50 to 55 thousand years ago. The new finding exceeds past estimates by close to 10,000 years, revealing that humans likely traversed the Pacific millennia earlier than once thought."The tree resin artefact provides evidence for complex plant processing during early human dispersal," they write. The researchers note that the resin sample is "rectilinear," which...

Have those who lectured us about democracy in danger now decided to save it by destroying it? The 2023-2024 campaign season is not just the strangest on record, it’s also arguably the most anti-democratic. Ostensibly, the Democratic Party has claimed over the last decade that Donald Trump posed a continued and existential threat to the republic. That allegation subsequently justified a variety of anti-democratic means to neuter his first two presidential candidacies, his presidency, and now his third and final run for the White House. A near decade ago, we witnessed the 2015-2016 Hillary Clinton/Democratic National Committee/FBI-assisted effort to plant...

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Some new Ukrainian soldiers refuse to fire at the enemy. Others, according to commanders and fellow fighters, struggle to assemble weapons or to coordinate basic combat movements. A few have even walked away from their posts, abandoning the battlefield altogether. While Ukraine presses on with its incursion into Russia’s Kursk region, its troops are still losing precious ground along the country’s eastern front – a grim erosion that military commanders blame in part on poorly trained recruits drawn from a recent mobilization drive, as well as Russia’s clear superiority in ammunition and air power.
