FTA:

Johnson said he and other GOP leaders wants to move federal agency offices, personnel and assets from the nation’s capital to bring them closer to the people they serve and farther from the monied special interests that often hijack policy and spending.

“There’s a lot of talk about uprooting, you know, these entrenched bureaucracies and putting them out elsewhere around the country,

While they’re at it, the states should ratify Article the First and establish regional Houses. Article the First would put the Deep State on ice for decades or longer.

A key benefit is that of expected resignations. Genius

I’m wondering how much NIMBY would come into play here. States would have to willingly house Federal bureaucrats. I’m thinking a lot of states would balk at this idea.

“…shrink federal government”

Don’t nibble at the edges. That’s a fool’s errand because the damn thin just pauses its growth for a few years.

Go for the jugular. Completely eliminate, wipe out, erase and bury three or four entire departments.

Why not both?

I’m thinking this might have the opposite impact from that intended. It might just create more places like Austin, TX. I’d rather see them eliminate 80-90% of the Administrative State.

I’m not.

They should be pink slipped, not moved.

Power, as much as possible, should devolve to state and local government.

Only three departments I’d keep at the federal level: Treasury, Defense, State.

That’s frigging it.

The farther power is away from the people being governed, the less accountable it is.

We’ve found that out the hard way.

DC money is centralizing the richest counties.

Move government to distressed areas in order to improve those economies.

It’s not equitable that only DC and surrounding counties obtain government spoils.

They need to spread that wealth around!

How about just eliminating programs and putting them on the unemployment line? Start with the illegals and first-gen larvae of jihadists?

Block grants cover the $ issues for states.. overall, lots less:

Downsized or eliminated departments, far fewer employees, and lots of office rentals off the books...perhaps even properties sold.

My rep Biggs in AZ raises the issue of unionized fed employees in right-to-work states. Relocate to Illinois, NY, Cali, Colo, or New Mex rather than right-to-work states. Musk , however, I bet will recommend ending federal employee unions.

Washington, DC needs to suffer a severe recession. Since WW2, America has experienced 12 or so recessions (at least the ones they admit to), Washington and the surrounding areas have experienced zero. The old model of our central government (concentrated in one place, professional politicians and staffs, politicization of everything, ever increasing spending, hiring, regulation, etc.) has gone far beyond its usefulness to the rest of America. A severe diet is in order.

The assumption is many resignations will result. Few will agree to move.

Vetters already have cooperative employees ready to fill cubicles where and if needed.
