TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida sent a reminder to the U.S. Department of Justice that they are not allowed to send monitors to polling locations after the DOJ sent a press release announcing the planned visits.
The Justice Department announced Friday that it “plans to monitor compliance with federal voting rights laws in 86 jurisdictions in 27 states for the Nov. 5 general election.”
The DOJ said they “regularly deploy” staff to “monitor for compliance with federal civil rights laws in elections in communities all across the country.”
Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd wrote an email to the Deputy Chief at the U.S. Department of Justice Voting Section, Jasmyn Richardson, that said: “As a reminder, Department of Justice monitors are not permitted inside a polling place under Florida law.”

Good for DeSantis.
States run elections.
Feds stay out, or get arrested.
DeSantis will be a great president some day, after he learns how to conduct a good campaign! But hey, he’s a great governor and the country needs more people like him.
Thanks DeSantis...
DeSantis flipping the bird to the Fed.gov DOJ
If its not law to “regularly deploy” staff to “monitor...” then tell the Feds that they can go “monitor THIS!”
Texas did the same.
God bless Florida!
this is not a good thing. I suppose if florida can say this, than any state can.
but I may be missing something.
What are they looking for? A booth for minorities to pay their poll tax? To pass a literacy test? Mean looking men with vicious dogs on chains growling at minority voters?
In other words, all the things the Dems did for a century.
I can tell you a couple cities DOJ WONT BE Monitoring.
Philly and Detroit.
I feel the same way. A very good governor.

“DeSantis will be a great president some day, after he learns how to conduct a good campaign! But hey, he’s a great governor and the country needs more people like him.”
DeSantis has been a great governor for Florida. We need more GOP governors like him. There are many who get into office (cough, cough, Kemp, cough) and immediately try to appease the left. Once you begin appeasing the left they use that to move their policies forward and undermine conservatives in the state. When has the GOPe’s “working across the aisle” policy worked for the people? Give me one great example since say ....2000?
Kemp has been much like the person being blackmailed who thinks if they just pay off the blackmailer THIS time, then they will not be asked for anything more. I truly believe he was conservative at some point in the past. Now, he is compromised and can’t be trusted by conservatives. It will be interesting to see where he lands when he term is up.
DeSantis hasn’t fallen into that trap and although I didn’t think he was the Presidential candidate we needed for 2024, I commend him for it.
Give a progressive an inch and they will take a state -— and destroy it.
Nice to know we have a pretty good bench of presidential contenders for 2028.
DOJ is a domestic enemy. 97% of DOJ employees gave money to Clinton in 2016. They won’t likely do what Trump wants if he’s elected. Sure Trump could change the political appointees at DOJ but the rank and file DOJ employees have civil service positions and would work to impede Trump’s agenda.
Trump needs to figure how to disrupt, disable and destroy the DOJ. They really don’t provide any useful services or protections for American citizens so not only are they a waste of money, but they are clearly contributing to harming society.
Destroy the DOJ.
“...if florida can say this, than any state can...”
-
Correct.
And as it should be.
Great governor but he lacks charisma. I’m opposed to governors and senators as cabinet members but he’s still young and would make an excellent vice president and eventual president (IMO).
The Federal Government does not administer elections. Those are the province of the States.
