Aww: isn't he sweet? Good boy! On Monday's CNN This Morning, CNN's Dana Bash and Kasie Hunt gave Republican Lance Trover a pat on the head for being "evolved" about the supposedly disparate press treatment of male and female sports coaches. The matter arose in the context of a long Washington Post profile of LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey. After noting that the article "details her kind of pugnacious coaching personality," Hunt skeptically wondered: "Would we talk about that with a male coach? I don't know."Republican strategist Lance Trover, who recently toiled for Doug Burgum for President, replied: "I...

“In the yeare 1307 the first of Aprill,” Holinshed’s Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland records, “Murcod Ballagh was beheaded neere to Merton by sir David Caunton knight.” First published in 1577, this document — heavily mined by Shakespeare for his histories — is silent as to the further particulars of the beheading. But the accompanying image depicting the execution surprisingly presents a guillotine-like device being employed for the task. s John Wilson Croker’s History of the Guillotine observes, this one illustration 270 years after the fact scarcely suffices to establish that a guillotine precursor really was in use in...

A vigilante group in Southern California is taking the squatting crisis into its own hands by removing the unruly tenants themselves. Though they officially launched as a business little more than a year ago, the Squatter Squad is now fielding up to 30 calls a day from victims complaining that someone has broken into their home and changed the locks. Entire communities in pockets of the Golden State have been ravaged by criminals turning properties into strip clubs and drug dens, hosting all-night raves, or simply claiming tenant rights without any form of agreement.

On a spring night in 2022, Ross Hill was trying to get several of his children—he has eight—tucked into bed for the night. *** “They were in tears because they didn’t want to go to school the next day,” said Mr. Hill, a 38-year-old teacher from Florence, South Carolina (pop: 39,958). Whether he knew it at the time or not, Mr. Hill’s family was part of a trend in the United States. A surprising number of children are miserable at school, research shows, and it’s a trend that began before the pandemic. For example, a 2020 Yale study that surveyed...

Researchers report the development of a new concept for a new DC power converter capable of greater efficiency at lower cost and requiring less maintenance than existing electrical systems. Developed by a team at Kobe University in Hyōgo, Japan, the direct current voltage boost converter could revolutionize the development and use of electric power generation in various applications. Boost converters, which are also known as step-up converters, are a variety of switched -mode power supply devices that increase voltage while also reducing current in the conversion of direct current (DC) from the device’s input to its output. Most power converters...

But there is a distinction between being a believing Christian and being a cultural Christian. And so you know I love hymns and Christmas carols and I sort of feel at home in the Christian ethos. President Biden has signaled to the world that America is weak. With feckless leaders like Vice President Kamala Harris and cabinet Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas joining him, it is no wonder that Biden’s resolve is being tested by our adversaries. Catherine Herridge, a former senior investigative reporter for CBS News, lit up the interwebs in December with an ominous prediction. Herridge stated, “I just feel a lot of concern that 2024 may be the year of a black swan event. This is a national security event with high impact that’s very hard to predict.” She is not alone in her thinking....

2016 meddling was 'primitive' compared to what's aheadWhen it comes to AI possibly influencing elections, 2024 will be "ground zero," according to Hillary Clinton. This will be a huge election year, with more than four billion people on this planet eligible to vote in one poll or another. The output of generative AI in all this politics, at least, is expected to be unavoidable in 2024; deepfake images, falsified audio, and such software-imagined stuff are likely to be used in attempts to sway or put off voters, undermine people's confidence in election processes, and sow division. That's not to...

When Donald Trump chose to be interviewed by Israel Hayom, he did not intend to send Israelis a warning message – but anyone who reads the content of what the most sympathetic president ever to sit in the White House said cannot miss the bright red light. Trump remains loyal to Israel, supports it and justifies the war it has waged, but warns: "You have lost the support you had. Once upon a time, 15 years ago, Israel had the strongest lobby. If you were a politician, you couldn't say anything bad about Israel. That was the end of your...

A popular form of contraception used by millions of women across the world has been linked to an increased risk of a rare brain tumor. Recent research published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) suggests a connection between the use of injectable medroxyprogesterone acetate — a type of progestogen used by roughly 74 million women globally for birth control — and the increased risk of meningioma, a brain tumor that affects the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. While usually benign, meningiomas potentially lead to serious complications due to their location. The study, carried out by French researchers, used...
