The Republican Liberty Caucus has published its 2023 liberty-focused scorecard for the U.S. Senate. The Liberty Index scores Republican Senators on 20 pivotal bills/votes from 2023 that either advance liberty or diminish liberty. For information on the bills selected, see the bill explanations on pages three and four of the document. The Liberty Score is obtained by calculating the percentage that a Senator votes in line with the RLC. For example, the highest possible Liberty Score is 100. This is achieved if a Senator voted with the RLC 100% of the time. A high score on this scorecard does not...

John 8:31-42 Friends, in today’s Gospel, the Lord tells some Jewish listeners that they are enslaved to sin and that the truth will set them free.Jesus was distinguishing between sin and sins, between the underlying disease and its many symptoms. When the Curé d’Ars was asked what wisdom he had gained about human nature from his many years of hearing confessions, he responded, “People are much sadder than they seem.” Blaise Pascal rests his apologetic for Christianity on the simple fact that all people are unhappy. This universal, enduring, and stubborn sadness is sin. Now, this does not mean that sin...

WASHINGTON, D.C. — With oral arguments taking place before the United States Supreme Court regarding online censorship, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson issued a grave warning that the right to free speech would mean people could speak freely. As the nation's highest court considers whether the federal government can limit free speech on social media platforms, Justice Jackson expressed alarm at the potential for the First Amendment provision of free speech to allow people to actually say whatever they want. "This is a very dangerous idea," Jackson said. "Having the right to free speech plainly written into the Constitution could set...

When New York’s deteriorating and unloved Indian Point nuclear plant finally shuttered in 2021, its demise was met with delight from environmentalists who had long demanded it be scrapped. But there has been a sting in the tail – since the closure, New York’s greenhouse gas emissions have gone up. Castigated for its impact upon the surrounding environment and feared for its potential to unleash disaster close to the heart of New York City, Indian Point nevertheless supplied a large chunk of the state’s carbon-free electricity. Since the plant’s closure, it has been gas, rather then clean energy such as...

We have seen the photographs, watched the videos,...

Brooklyn movie theater workers who said they were “victimized by Barbenheimer” have voted to unionize — after what they claim was “an aggressive union-busting campaign” from management. Employees at Nitehawk Cinema in Prospect Park say they’ve had enough of unsafe working conditions, unfair treatment, and being underpaid and overworked at the popular theater. Their concerns became “exacerbated by the whirlwind phenomena of Barbenheimer” last summer, the union said in a statement last month. Out of over 100 eligible voters, 92 workers participated in the election last week, voting 51-41 in favor of a union, Will Bobrowski, second vice president at...

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday requested an appeals court turn down former President Donald Trump’s request to reduce or hold off collecting the bond amount of $454 million to cover a civil fraud judgment. Trump must post a liquid (cash, securities) bond covering the full amount of the judgment to pause enforcement of the judgment, but 30 surety companies told Trump they would not accept real estate assets as collateral, Trump’s lawyers said Monday. James could seek to freeze some of his bank accounts and properties if Trump cannot post the $454 million bond. Enforcement against Trump...

Two plaintiffs from California filed suit against the retailer Tuesday after being urged to 'support the business' by buying ancillary products including shoes, scarves, belts, jewelry and home goods. The pursuit of a Birkin is an arduous one. Due to high demand and the painstaking effort needed to craft the leather handbags, they are difficult to produce and expensive to buy.

In the coming months, the world is set to witness an extraordinary celestial event as a massive explosion in the T Coronae Borealis star system is poised to create a “new star” in the night sky. This rare astronomical event, expected to occur between now and September 2024, is not the birth of a star but rather an extraordinary nova outburst from T Coronae Borealis (T CrB), situated 3,000 light-years away in the constellation of Corona Borealis. NASA described the anticipated nova outburst as a “once-in-a-lifetime viewing opportunity” as T Coronae Borealis is predicted to become as bright as the...
