There can be no definitive answer to the question, ‘what was England’s population in [such and such a period]?’. Even with the sophisticated data gathering and processing techniques used in compiling the modern Census, not every individual is counted, and a few assumptions have to be made. When the question is applied to earlier centuries, a degree of intelligent guesswork is called for. Although England is famously blessed with a generous source of historical records, the information is not sufficient to provide a complete picture. However, a profile or ‘shape’ to England’s population history is certainly possible, one that may...

President Joe Biden (D) claimed on Thursday that there had been more mass shootings in 2024 “than days in the year.” Biden posted his claim on X: We’ve now had more mass shootings in 2024 than there have been days in the year. It’s unacceptable. We must end this senseless epidemic of gun violence tearing us at the seams. — Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) February 15, 2024 He offered no substantiation of his claim, no reference to where he found evidence of “more mass shootings … than there have been days in the year.” Biden made a similar assertion on May...

Bringing Down the Game of Thrones: A Revolution of Restoration Is UnderwayIn his 1997 memoir Drawing Life: Surviving the Unabomber, Yale University professor David Gelernter tells us of the mail bomb that exploded in his hands and forever changed his life. In this account of his long period of treatment and recovery, Gelernter caused a stir with his criticisms of American culture, at least one of which remains a hot topic today: the place of the elite in our society. After giving readers a brief history of the old elite, which he views favorably for the commonalities they shared with their...

There have been murmurs for at least the last ten years about the potential for civil war in the United States. Polls have shown that roughly half the country believes that future conflict is likely. The intrusion of unchecked government power into every crevice of our private lives has transformed politics into a high-stakes cage match in which furious citizens fight to survive. Because government exerts so much control over citizens, winning control of government has become an existential imperative. Such zero-sum thinking has fractured society and pitted Americans against one another. However, something fundamental has been shifting beneath our...

In June 2023, Students for Fair Admissions, Inc. (SFFA) prevailed in complaints alleging racially discriminatory admissions practices at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina. The 6-3 Supreme Court decision in these cases eliminated decades of ambiguity about what aspects of race were permissible in candidate evaluations at some of our nation’s most prestigious universities. Following the Court’s decision, a number of analysts and commentators noted that Chief Justice Roberts’s majority opinion contained a footnote exempting military service academies. That footnote reads: The United States as amicus curiae contends that race-based admissions programs further compelling interests at our Nation’s...

Tucker Carlson has been mocked over a fawning video praising Moscow's 'cheap and fresh' groceries - while overlooking the much lower wages in Russia. The former Fox News firebrand wheeled a grocery cart around a Russian superstore while marveling at the stock as he continued his Putin PR tour. -snip/ The video drew widespread ridicule from people online, as many pointed out the disparity between the average wage in Russia - which is the equivalent of $9072 - or 6.5 times less than the average US salary of $59,428. Many joked he was working for free as a one-man 'tourism...

For years, President Donald Trump has sounded the alarm about how Obama’s CIA spied on his campaign in 2016 before ultimately triggering the “Russian collusion hoax,” a carefully strategized mode of attack devised by the deep state to discredit the president with total lies. According to an explosive report by journalists Michael Shellenberger and Matt Taibbis, covered by Fox News’s Jesse Watters, the whole thing was one big setup. “Obama’s CIA targeted Trump and started the entire Russia hoax,” Watters began in the segment.

Jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died, the prison service has said. He was seen in a video call in January, joking about his prison outfit at the Arctic penal colony he had been moved to a month earlier. The IK-3 colony, nicknamed "Polar Wolf", is in the northern town of Kharp, some 1,900km (1,200 miles) northeast of Moscow. It's seen as one of the toughest jails in Russia and most detainees held there have been convicted of serious crimes. Speaking to journalists on the video call, Navalny appeared to be in good spirits, joking that he was yet...

IN THE first part of this essay yesterday I explained how Biden’s unhinged foreign policy precipitated the destruction of Ukraine. Yet while the horrors of Bakhmut and the Donbas were unfolding, another of Biden’s utopian delusions was germinating in the Middle East. His government inherited the region from Trump in a subdued state: ISIS had been shattered swiftly in 2017; the Iranian regime was first suppressed by sanctions and then shocked by the 2020 assassination of the military commander Qasem Soleimani, and Israeli security commitments were bolstered by the recognition of Jerusalem as its official capital. Hence, Jake Sullivan, Biden’s...

Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Office: “Now is not the time to be speaking about gifts for the Palestinian people.” The Biden administration is planning to reward the Palestinians for the October 7 massacre by enabling them to create a state with its capital in East Jerusalem, a report published by The Washington Post on Wednesday indicates.Barely four months after Hamas terrorists slaughtered 1200 Israelis as they raped and pillaged their way through Jewish communities in southern Israel, the Biden White House has reportedly joined hands with Arab states and the European Union to clear the path for statehood for Palestinians —...

Reform UK has scored its best ever by-election [Special election] results, sending a clear warning to the Conservatives ahead of the next general election. The rebranded Brexit Party won 13% of the votes in Wellingborough and 10.4% in Kingswood, roughly matching the levels it has been polling nationally. BBC analysis of major opinion polls shows a marked increase in the party's support in recent months to an average of 10%, nearly double where it stood last year. But until now, it has struggled to repeat this in elections. The numbers suggest most of Reform's support in Thursday's by-elections came from...

Let's call it like it is. Lady Liberty is on the ropes, and it wasn't the Nazis, the Soviets, or Islamic terrorists who put her in a daze. Nor was it a second Civil War that bloodied her face, forcing Mick to cut her eye. The simple answer is that this is the work of Democrats and RINOs. As of today, we are supposed to believe that Joe Biden plans on running for re-election, hoping to assail our battered nation with another term of Marxist codswallop. I'll bet my Snagglepuss lunchbox that doesn't happen. I think Biden is going to...

On the one hand, Donald Trump, the former and perhaps future president of the United States, seems uniquely hapless. He lost an election unlike any other before—one in which insecure mail-in balloting proliferated, many states made constitutionally dubious changes to their voting procedures, and Big Tech put a decisive and perhaps outcome-altering thumb on the scale. Even worse, Trump last year became the first former president to be criminally indicted—four separate times. Tough luck, for sure. But on the other hand, there is one thing that should provide no small amount of solace to Trump and his many supporters. As...

How Progressive Policies are Designed for Civilizational SuicideEvidence now clearly establishes that moderate liberals should face reality and reject the policies of the progressive vanguard, leading them to civilizational suicide. We all understand, in the timeless words of the poet Robert Burns, that the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Most Americans are accustomed to assessing the various failed initiatives of our country’s leaders as well-intended actions that turned out badly. The Vietnam, Afghan, and Iraq wars, the 2008 financial meltdown, and the COVID pandemic overreaction, all in hindsight, can be viewed as simply the unfolding of...

Students in a Seattle English class were told that their love of reading and writing is a characteristic of “white supremacy,” in the latest Seattle Public Schools high school controversy. The lesson plan has one local father speaking out, calling it “educational malpractice.” As part of the Black Lives Matter at School Week, World Literature and Composition students at Lincoln High School were given a handout with definitions of the “9 characteristics of white supremacy,” according to the father of a student. Given the subject matter of the class, the father found it odd this particular lesson was brought up....

Legendary U.S. Marine Corps Scout Sniper Charles Benjamin “Chuck” Mawhinney died at the age of 75 after an incredible life, both in the military and after. Mawhinney is famous for over 100 confirmed kills as a sniper in Vietnam. “I’m just a simple person, and in Vietnam, I was just doing my job.” Mawhinney once said. His famous quote represents just how humble he was. Mawhinney worked for the U.S. Forest Service after his time in the Marines, retiring after 27 years, and for most of his life, no one knew just how legendary he was.
