By Rich Scarcella | rscarcella@readingeagle.com | Reading Eagle PUBLISHED: October 17, 2023 at 4:23 p.m. | UPDATED: October 17, 2023 at 4:23 p.m. Olu Fashanu didn’t really know Drew Allar that well until Penn State’s Rose Bowl trip almost a year ago. Neither one was interested in touring the Los Angeles area, so they wound up staying in the team hotel and spending a lot of free time in the players’ media room squaring off in the FIFA video game for hours. Fashanu, the Nittany Lions’ outstanding offensive tackle, played as the Netherlands and Allar as France. “The most important...

Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus declares the value of almsgiving: “As to what is within, give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you.”Almsgiving is valuable because we’re members of a Mystical Body—we’re implicated in each other. I can never say that your suffering is not mine or that your neediness is not mine. All of us are co-implicated. We’re responsible for each other, and giving alms is a very concrete way to acknowledge that. When we share gifts or charity with those in need, we’re acknowledging the fact that we’re not in this alone, that the things that...

Western progressives and radical Islam are ideologically opposed, so why are so many Critical Theory apologists supporting the October 7 attacks? One of the more ridiculous images to make its way around social media sites in the wake of the horrific attack in Israel was a photo of four Westerners with a sign, “Queers for Palestine.” There’s also a Twitter page with that name. The banner photo insists, “Allah Loves Equality.” Statements like these are so out of touch with reality, we can only hope that they are satire. Given what we know of Hamas, ISIS, and the Iranian...

Explanation: It's not the big ring that's attracting the most attention. Although the big planet-forming ring around the star PDS 70 is clearly imaged and itself quite interesting. It's also not the planet on the right, just inside the big disk, that’s being talked about the most. Although the planet PDS 70c is a newly formed and, interestingly, similar in size and mass to Jupiter. It's the fuzzy patch around the planet PDS 70c that's causing the commotion. That fuzzy patch is thought to be a dusty disk that is now forming into moons -- and that had never been...

Thousands of people gathered at the Mosque Foundation in Bridgeview on Monday to mourn Wadea Al-Fayoume, the Palestinian American boy who authorities said was fatally stabbed because of his Muslim faith. He had turned 6 this month. Mourners filled the Mosque Foundation, which holds 3,000 people, as they packed into prayer rooms, spilled out into hallways and bowed in prayer. They conducted a traditional mourning prayer called a janazah on behalf of Wadea, asking Allah to bring him to his kingdom in the afterlife, mourner Hadeil Abdelfattah said. “I want to tell the world that Wadea was a 6-year-old kid,...

The recent, unprecedented attacks by Hamas against Israel October 7 were the deadliest since Israel became a nation, and the global conflict has now become a powder keg. Some speculate WW III is here. Israel has always been under attack. According to Bible prophecy, many events in the last days including the return of Jesus Christ, the judgment of God, and end times wars would revolve around Jerusalem. The Bible warns about wars and rumors of wars, and since a coalition of Muslim nations surrounding Israel forged an alliance many decades ago, the Middle East meltdown was set in motion....

Hezbollah announced that five members of the movement had been killed while "carrying out their jihadist duty." IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi warned that "if Hezbollah makes a mistake and attacks, [they will be] annihilated," as Hezbollah continued to conduct anti-tank missile attacks toward Israeli territory on Tuesday. The IDF said earlier in the day that anti-tank missile attacks targeted Metula, Zar'it, Yiftah, and near Margaliot in northern Israel. Gunfire also targeted a number of IDF posts along the border throughout the day, with the Hezbollah-affiliated al-Manar TV reporting that cameras and other IDF equipment were targeted.

The IDF said that an operative analysis found that a rocket fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist movement appeared to have caused the explosion at the Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City in which dozens of people were reported killed by the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry. The explosion was reported at the same time that the Islamic Jihad announced that it had launched a barrage of rockets from the Strip toward Israel.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen reaffirmed President Joe Biden’s globalist agenda this week, vowing that the United States is “not attempting to decouple from China.” “We are not attempting to decouple from China,” Yellen told Sky News on Monday. “We have a deep economic relationship and that kind of competition, trade, and investment is beneficial to both sides and we want an environment in which it can continue.” “We are deepening our relationship [with China],” Yellen continued, and said the Biden administration is not looking to “harm progress in China.”

Can you legally prevent Trump from making ‘mean tweets’ about you. Sure, all you have to do is have a black robe courtesy of the ruling party. A federal judge on Monday issued a gag order on former President Donald Trump, limiting what he can say about special counsel Jack Smith’s federal prosecution into his alleged attempt to subvert in the 2020 presidential election. “This is not about whether I like the language Mr. Trump uses,” Judge Tanya Chutkan said. “This is about language that presents a danger to the administration of justice.” “His presidential candidacy does not give him...

On Tuesday's Morning Joe, Scarborough demanded that Donald Trump be jailed if he violates the gag order issued yesterday by Judge Tanya Chutkan in the federal election interference case. Indeed, the panel's working assumption was that it was a question of when, not if, Trump would violate the order. Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

Claimed victims in image were killed by IDF, but they really were victims of Syria’s dictator Ilhan Omar, the Democrat representative in Congress for a suburban district in Minneapolis, long has insisted that “disinformation” be struck from the conversations Americans have about issues. Apparently that would be, however, only “disinformation” with which she disagrees. That’s apparent because she was caught over the weekend spreading “disinformation,” or a lie, about the war that the Hamas terrorists launched against Israel a week ago. In that initial assault, the terrorists broke into Israeli territory and killed an estimated 1,200 individuals immediately, including babies...

The Biden administration and more than 4,000 migrants who were separated from their families at the U.S.-Mexico border by the Trump administration reached a legal settlement Monday that allows the families to live and work in the U.S. for three years while receiving housing, mental health and legal assistance to apply for asylum. The settlement also prohibits the federal government from separating any migrant families crossing the border for eight years merely for violating U.S. immigration laws. Families could be separated only if the parents are considered a danger to their children or the public. The deal, announced by the...

Audrey Hale, 28, shot her way through glass doors into the school, and fired more than 100 more rounds and destroyed the lives of Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs and William Kinney, each 9, and Cynthia Peak, 61; Katherine Koonce, 60, and Mike Hill, 61. But the fight over the violence, even though Hale was killed by police officers, is far from over, as there are groups that have insisted on her rantings in writing be released so the public may have the fullest information about a motive, and lawyers for parents and school have claimed releasing them would cause "harm"...
