A one-time 'victim' of vigilante justice in the southwestern New Brunswick village of McAdam has been sentenced to six months in jail, plus probation, for an admitted sexual assault. On Monday, provincial court Judge Cameron Gunn sentenced Blake Scott of McAdam to six months in jail, plus two years of supervised probation. However, because Scott has already been in pre-trial custody since May 10, his remand credit means he will not serve any more time for the offence. Scott was originally charged with committing a sexual assault while threatening to use a flare gun, as well as assault by way of...

Now, while we (few) pass this around, chortling at that “gaffe,” let’s give some thought to the far graver question as to where all those children are, and why “our free press” isn’t asking. Here’s an excellent overview, by Peter and Ginger Breggin, of all that’s deeply, weirdly wrong with the response—or non-response—to the catastrophe:

Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee for president in 2012 against then-president Barack Obama, said Wednesday that he will not seek a second term in the U.S. Senate, citing his old age and a demand for younger leadership. ‘ “I’ve spent my last 25 years in public service of one kind or another,” the Utah lawmaker said in a video statement. “At the end of another term, I’d be in my mid 80s. Frankly, it’s time for a new generation of leaders. They’re the ones who need to make the decisions that shape the world they will be living in.” Among...

Neighbors, who reportedly knew of the family’s dire situation, chose to remain silent, echoing a troubling trend where individuals hesitate to report suspicious activities, like the San Bernardino Jihadists or the Ft. Hood Jihadi, for fear of being unjustly labeled as racist or Islamophobic by the media or authorities. In a shocking and disturbing incident recently, Australian police have rescued 14 children, including a baby, from an Islamic “house of horrors,” where the children were subjected to unimaginable abuse and neglect. This tragic story reveals a heartbreaking tale of isolation, cruelty, and courage, with the abuse occurring within a religious...

Surveillance video caught TSA agents at Miami International Airport stealing from passengers as they went through security. The shocking footage shows Labarrius Williams, 33, and Josue Gonzalez, 20, working together to steal money from passengers’ bags at security checkpoint E on June 29. Video provided by the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's office shows Williams shifting around items in a bin and then walking away while Gonzalez puts his hand on the item. Gonzalez is then seen gripping something in his hand while removing it from the bin, then immediately dropping something in his pocket before returning to the conveyor belt....

Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and outspoken critic of former President Donald Trump, will not run for re-election next year, he said in a video statement on Wednesday. "I have spent my last 25 years in public service of one kind or another. At the end of another term, I’d be in my mid-eighties. Frankly, it’s time for a new generation of leaders. They’re the ones that need to make the decisions that will shape the world they will be living in," Romney said. He added, "While I’m not running for re-election, I’m not retiring from...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (RNS) — The crowds seen buzzing last week outside the Bridgestone Arena, a regular host to the NCAA basketball tournament and a hometown venue for country music acts, were coming not to take in a game or a concert, but to sing, write and bond over Christian hymns. The annual Sing! Global conference, held Sept. 4-6, drew some 8,500 Christian worship music leaders and other church musicians, pastors, vendors and hymn composers from as many as 35 countries. (An estimated 80,000 others in 120 countries participate online.) They attend breakout sessions on congregational singing, songwriting and children’s and...

Grocery price increases in the United States slowed down in August, up just 0.2% for the month. That’s an improvement from July, when grocery prices were up 0.3%, according to the latest Consumer Price Index, released Wednesday. For the year, grocery prices are up a modest 3%. This time last year, prices were up 13.5% compared to 2021. *SNIP* Bacon prices jumped by 4% last month, the biggest monthly increase since June 2020. The increase comes as wholesale pork belly prices -— the cut of meat used to make bacon — hit a near-record high of $2.37 a pound last...

President Joe Biden’s proposed energy efficiency standards for water heaters, released July 21 by the Energy Department, not only would raise the cost of water heaters for consumers but take certain products off the market. One popular tankless natural gas water heater, made by Rinnai in Griffin, Georgia, would have to be discontinued. The public has until Sept. 26 to file comments. Beginning in 2029, the Energy Department’s proposed regulation would set government standards for all types of water heaters, including gas-fired, oil-fired, electric, and instantaneous tankless water heaters. The proposed rule would raise standards disproportionately for tankless, gas-fired water...

A federal judge in Albuquerque, New Mexico, has issued a temporary restraining order blocking key parts of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s executive order suspending open and concealed carry across Albuquerque and the surrounding Bernalillo County for at least 30 days. U.S. District Court Judge David Urias issued the order on Wednesday, blocking the portion of the order that prohibits lawful gun owners from carrying their guns in public for 30 days, ruling that it's not enforceable. "The violation of a constitutional right, even for minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irreparable injury," Urias said during the hearing. The temporary restraining...

President Biden says he wants simple, status-quo legislation to prevent a government shutdown, but hidden in the fine print of his actual funding request is one of the most radical, anti-policing, pro-criminal proposals of his Presidency. The Biden White House is trying to exploit the fog of a ginned-up government-shutdown crisis to strike a final, fatal blow against immigration law enforcement—by slipping in a loophole that would allow the White House to effectively abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by defunding it. Last week, President Biden called on Congress to pass a short-term spending bill to keep the government open...

SANTA FE — A wandering bull moose was captured in downtown Santa Fe and relocated to a suitable habitat in northern New Mexico, authorities said Tuesday. State Game and Fish officials and Animal Service Officers for the city said the moose was spotted around 8 a.m. near Fort Marcy Park. Officers set up a perimeter to protect residents and pedestrians in the park, which is a popular walking area. The moose was sedated with a tranquilizer dart and loaded onto a trailer before being evaluated by a state Department of Game and Fish veterinarian and determined to be in good...

More than 60 Russian soldiers may have been killed or wounded by friendly fire as they made a hasty retreat from the village of Opytne, in the Donetsk region, Russian sources have said. The chaotic withdrawal was mistaken for a rapid Ukrainian advance across an open field by a Russian drone operator who ordered an artillery strike. Pro-Kremlin military bloggers initially said that the 200 Russian troops were retreating to “more favourable positions”, as Ukrainian forces gradually overcame their defences around the village, which is less than two miles north of Donetsk airport. But one source with knowledge of the...

President Joe Biden refused to answer — appearing to blankly stare into the distance — when questioned for the first time about the House impeachment inquiry about him for “abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption.” During a meeting with his Cancer Cabinet in the White House, Joe Biden refused to answer questions about the inquiry, appearing to blankly stare, lick his lips, and rub his hands before leaning over to first lady Jill Biden. The video showed Jill Biden point to her left, causing Joe Biden to scan the room while questions rang out from reporters for over 30 seconds...

To mention abortion and infanticide in the same breath is a provocation. A majority of voters in Britain and America regard abortion as permissible in some circumstances, whereas very few are willing to say the same of infanticide (with some notable exceptions, as we will see). But this distinction has not been made by all peoples at all times...In 1939 T. S. Eliot gave a series of lectures at the University of Cambridge in which he described a fork in the road. Western Civilization might continue along the Christian path, he predicted, or it might adopt “modern paganism.” Eliot, a...

Google confirmed it will lay off hundreds of staff members who helped recruit and hire employees, as Silicon Valley continues its cost-cutting efforts. The latest cuts come after Google parent Alphabet in January eliminated 12,000 jobs, or about 6% of its workforce, across the company as it grappled with economic uncertainty that hit the company’s bottom line last year, especially its core advertising business. During Google’s July earnings call, CEO Sundar Pichai said the company was continuing to slow its “expense growth and pace of hiring.” “We continue to invest in top engineering and technical talent while also meaningfully slowing...

A baseline is important to frame the accurate context:♦ Our government is controlled by corporations and financial interests who operate on an independent agenda, not in our interest. ♦ The RNC and DNC are private clubs inside the U.S. political system, who construct the illusion of choice as directed by their benefactors (donors). The benefactors/donors in both instances are the same entities. This reality forms the core of the Uniparty agenda that we see surface every day in government policy that runs counter to the interests of U.S citizens and voters. The two wings of the UniParty vulture are the RNC...

Ford was supposed to be able to build 600,000 electric vehicles (EVs) this year. Then, it wasn’t. The date was pushed back to the end of 2024. Now, Ford may be unable to sell all those EVs, even if it hits that production number. Too few people want an F-150 Lightning, Ford’s electric flagship. (These 15 cars hold their value the longest.) According to Bloomberg, Ford has raised production of the hybrid F-150, a watered-down version that helps save gasoline and the environment. Jim Farley, Ford CEO, says he is surprised by the demand for the hybrid version. He failed...
