Explanation: Have you seen the bird in the Milky Way? Beyond the man in the Moon, the night sky is filled with stories, and cultures throughout history have projected some of their most enduring legends onto the stars and dust above. Generations of people see these celestial icons, hear their associated stories, and pass them down. Pictured here is not only a segment of the central band of our Milky Way galaxy, but, according to folklore of several native peoples of Uruguay, the outline of a great bird called Ñandú. Furthermore, Ñandú's footprint is associated with the Southern Cross asterism....

However, Dave Williams, vice president for...

About 20 percent of the buildings in the GSA’s portfolio will be impacted. Twenty-eight of them will become carbon neutral and 100 more will become all electric. The effort — which is also expected to incorporate additional private funding — is expected to avoid 2.3 million metric tons of greenhouse...

With only hours of oxygen left in the submersible that was touring the Titanic, it has gone missing over the wreckage. By 12 pm on Thursday, the oxygen will be depleted. The sub, carrying five people, has been missing since Sunday when it lost all contact while exploring the wreckage of the famous ship 13,000 ft under the sea. GB News said the US is holding up a possible rescue. Rescuers say it’s not a rational decision. Even if it is located, it would not be easy to rescue those on board, given the depths. It’s down about two miles....

“There are a few reasons we are allowed to deny requests for building use,” the Addison Northwest Supervisory District superintendent said. “Disagreeing with a group’s views is not one of them.” On June 20, conservative activist Walt Heyer, who previously identified as a trans woman and now advocates against gender-affirming care practices, will speak in Vergennes. At an evening seminar — titled “Transgender ‘Care’/Helpful or Harmful?” — Heyer will outline his criticisms of gender-affirming treatments, according to an event flyer, including an argument that using trans people’s preferred pronouns can be damaging. The venue? A public school — specifically, Vergennes...

[Catholic Caucus] Synod working doc aims to unite Catholics, but may alienate conservativesROME – Touting the process as an effort to lead global Catholicism “beyond fragmentation and polarization,” the Vatican published Tuesday the Instrumentum laboris, or “working document,” for a Synod of Bishops on Synodality convened by Pope Francis in October. However, the specific issues the document lists as matters to be addressed during the summit may actually fuel the Church’s divisions by seeming to favor liberal concerns.Among the specific topics for discussion the document lists are the ordination of women as deacons and married men as priests, as well as...

In his job interview with voters during the 2020 election, Joe Biden assured Americans that the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation, he never had any dealings with his family’s business partners and that his son was innocent of any wrongdoings. While the first two claims were shattered long ago, the 46th president has held firm on the last. “My son has done nothing wrong,” he proclaimed just a few short weeks ago. The criminal information filed Tuesday in federal court charging Hunter Biden with intentionally avoiding payment of federal taxes and lying about his drug use to buy a...

On Tuesday, CNN anchor Dana Bash said that there was “no evidence to prove it at all” that the United States has “two tiers of justice.” The panel discussed Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, who has agreed to plead guilty to two federal tax misdemeanors and will enter a diversion program related to a gun charge. RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) — Portrait photographer Anne Brande shoots graduation and wedding engagement photos at scenic spots throughout southeastern Wyoming’s granite mountains and sprawling sagebrush valleys, but worries what those views will look like in a few years. Wind energy is booming here. In a state where being able to hunt, fish and camp in gorgeous and untrammeled nature is a way of life, worries about spoiled views, killed eagles and disturbed big-game animals such as elk and mule deer have grown with the spread of wind turbines. On Tuesday, state and federal officials will break ground on TransWest Express,...

[Catholic Caucus] Synod document sets stage for wide-ranging debate on women, Catholic ministries and structuresWhen prelates and lay delegates gather in October for the Synod of Bishops, they will be asked to directly confront a number of pressing questions — including the possibility of women deacons, access to the priesthood for married men, the integration of LGBTQ+ Catholics, and penance for sexual abuse and the abuse of power, conscience and money — in consideration of how the Catholic Church might transform and expand its structures to become more welcoming to all its members. In a much anticipated document released June...

My friend Lawrence W. Reed is one of Earth's biggest optimists. The legendary free-market scholar recalls flipping his vehicle at age 26 on an icy Michigan road in February 1980. As he rolled over inside his Ford Fairmont, he smiled: ”Hey, I'll get a new car out of this!” Thus, his recent essay for the Foundation for Economic Education, of which he is president emeritus, is a surprise. Reed has gone from cheerful to chilly. ”There's an awful lot of bad behavior going on — and perpetrators getting away with it, too. From lying to looting, it feels like an...

The Daily Mail gained access to the four-hour workshop, which was centered on reviewing various new educational statutes to “remedy the marginalizing effects and disrupt problematic policies.” Kimberly Martin, DEI coordinator for Royal Oaks Schools in Michigan, described her efforts...
