RNS) — The National Religious Broadcasters, an association of Christian media outlets, has joined a lawsuit seeking to block a California law that requires social media companies to publish their policies on removing hate speech from their platforms. “In an environment where much religious viewpoint expression is considered ‘controversial’ speech, NRB is acting to stop the weaponization of new laws against Christian communicators,” said Troy Miller, the NRB’s president and chief executive officer, in a statement. Signing AB 587 last September, Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement that “California will not stand by as social media is weaponized to...

A professor at a New York City art college has been fired after she aggressively challenged pro-life students on campus, then pulled a machete on a reporter. Shellyne Rodriguez, 46, was an adjunct professor at the School of Visual Arts and Hunter College. Earlier in May she angrily confronted students manning a pro-life stand inside the college, swearing at them furiously - then destroying the display. When asked about the incident at her home in the Bronx, Rodriguez drew a machete and held it to the throat of the reporter at her door, threatening to 'chop' him up. When New...

“Strong lay participation in all diocesan bodies is a great advantage for local dioceses and a clear consequence of the Second Vatican Council.” Two German dioceses are forging ahead with lay participation in Church governance, despite warnings from the Vatican. The dioceses have begun to put reforms proposed by the German synodal path initiative into practice, especially that of involving the laity in governance. In the Diocese of Osnabrück, which has been vacant since the Pope accepted Bishop Franz-Josef Bode’s resignation in March, talks have begun between the nine priest members of the cathedral chapter and nine lay Catholics. The...

[Catholic Caucus] New Zealand: The Content of the Novus Ordo? Snickers...The Presiding Bishop of New Zealand, Steve Lowe of Auckland, wore a pallium-like lei made of Snickers bars (sic) during a May 19 Novus Ordo Eucharist in his cathedral. Leis are traditional garlands made from flowers or shells. The occasion was a Eucharist for Liston College, a Catholic school for boys aged 12 to 18. Some of them were baptised and confirmed during the Snickers show. If nothing else, Lowe was very effective in conveying to the boys that the Novus Ordo is a bad joke.

IT'S AN HOUR after the Miami Heat shocked the basketball world, taking a 2-0 lead over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals. And Jimmy Butler, who just scored 27 points in 41 grueling minutes is ... singing. As he walks to the postgame podium, inside a makeshift conference room in the belly of Boston's TD Garden, country music singer Morgan Wallen's "Somebody's problem" blares from a speaker attached to the Heat star's phone. Somebody's problem, but that ain't minnnnnne, Butler croons. As he breaks down the game, and his heated, forehead-to-forehead exchange with Celtics forward Grant Williams, after...

Ahead of Gov. Ron DeSantis' anticipated announcement this week, a GOP mega-donor is throwing his support toward the Florida Republican instead of former President Donald Trump. Point Bridge Capital founder Hal Lambert explained in a FOX Business exclusive interview why he believes it's "time [for the Republican Party] to move on" to younger leadership. "There's a number of reasons," Lambert said on "Cavuto: Coast to Coast" on Tuesday. "One, Donald Trump can only serve one term. He'll effectively be a lame duck almost on day one, if he were to win. But I don't think he can win the general...

The incident with a U-Haul truck driven into a barrier near the White House last night by a person said to have a Nazi flag in the truck reminds us of previous incidents not the least of which was January 6th. Our emerging sense of J6 as an act of incitement and entrapment reminds us that the government entities associated with J6 continue their missions of spying on individuals and groups with informants or undercover agents. In addition private entities that focus on 'hate groups' and 'far-right extremism' also engage in activities similar to law enforcement and have ties to...

Historically, Spain has a massive influence on Mexico: the language, the culture, the religion, and the demographics. It’s obvious. But did you know it’s not all a one-way street? Contemporary Spain has also been influenced by Mexico. The language is a big part of it, but it’s more than that. It’s the general cultural ambiance. We got the impression that Spaniards liked Mexicans. They might be afraid to go to Mexico, given the violence, which is understandable, but they don’t have anything against Mexicans. Several of them did, however, have some critical things to say about the current Mexican government...

The Simpsons has aired its milestone 750th episode and marked the occasion by cramming 750 iconic characters into the opening sequence, including Dolly Parton and even the late Queen of England. The special opening sequence to Sunday night's show started as usual at Springfield Elementary School with Bart writing lines on a blackboard, but this time he chalks out: 'I will not try to cram 750 characters into the opening credits...' A whole host of celebrities then make blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearances, including the Rolling Stones, John Lennon and The Who, who are pictured alongside country music legend Dolly Parton in the...

A “plus size model” who posts under “Big Curvy Olivia” on Tik Tok has accused United Airlines of discriminating against her and other passengers of size after she struggled to wedge herself through the Polaris Business Class cabin on a recent flight. She faulted United for discrimination, lamenting that it should build wider aisles on its aircraft. Admittedly, I’m covering this somewhat out of amusement: it is not my aim to fat-shame this woman and I do question whether she is even serious. First, she has a backpack on. Maybe you try removing that before wedging yourself through a tight...

James Comer (R-KY) said, “Trump is seven points ahead of Joe Biden and trending upward, and Joe Biden is trending downward. The media is scratching their head, realizing the American people are keeping up with our investigation.”
