The discovery of the Anti-Defamation League's covert operation targeting the John Birch Society is the basis of a chapter in a new book by political historian Matthew Dallek of George Washington University.

They had good reasons but the smearing of Barry Goldwater and his supporters like the John Birch Society too far.
That's what the ADL did 60 years what kind of dirty spy work are they doing today if any.
Is it aimed at President Trump and his supporters?

That’s history but I consider the here and now are these folks at ADL doing stuff to discredit people who support President Trump for example in our times considering what they did in the past.
It’s not about Jews it’s about principle the ADL spy operations were against people defending the US Constitution no doubt driven by fear of the Nazis because of the Holocaust but still not good activity IMHO.
They were over the target but Bill Buckley wrote them out of the “Conservative Movement” in 1965 he went with the Global Business Elites.
As peculiar as so many still supporting the Democrat party despite that party having so many outright anti-Semites and pro-Islamists who'd gladly toss them to the wolves without hesitation.

That was because the JBS came out against the Veietnam War. They argued that the War was a distraction from Commie infiltration at HOME.
Goldwater was taken down by the deep state because he loved America too much. He was cursed and maligned because he was right on just about everything. I worked for Barry from the early days of the draft Goldwater movement after the Rockefeller debacle, to the election. He did not flinch or hold back because he was a man of principle, and Faith. The great thing about Barry was that the young people Loved him. Goldwater ‘64 was a youth movement! He breathed life into the Young Republicans and enlarged the appeal of YAF as well. That movement gave Reagan a platform and eventually put a Conservative in the White House.
The last part of that article is propaganda in my opinion.
Depends what you mean by "the American right." The Birchers were mostly outliers to the American conservative movement until recently. In 1978, JBers opposed Proposition 13, the California property tax limitation in initiative that most conservatives supported and whose success helped to launch the Reagan Revolution--which the Birchers did not support. The JBers remained cool to Reagan throughout his presidency.
When Bush 41 ran for re-election in 1992, the Birchers spent a great deal of effort promoting an anti-Bush book from their publishing house. True, Bush was no friend of conservatives, but he was preferable to Bill Clinton, the only beneficiary of such an effort.
Then they opposed Newt Gingrich's Contract with America and ran article after article in their publications denouncing Gingrich. They also opposed Rush Limbaugh, and their magazine The New American ran a couple of articles denouncing him.
However, in recent years, they have boarded the Trump train and now embrace the MAGA agenda. I just came home from a California Republican Assembly meeting that featured a presentation by a JB spokesman.
By 1967, bumper stickers were appearing that read, "Don't blame me. I voted for Goldwater."
And apparently the authors forget that the Society is still quite active. Or they also forgot about Korean Air 007 and the main target Congressman on board that fated flight. Some observations which fly in the face of the bragging Times of Israel.
Everyone knows, for example- along the same kind of “look the other way, though you really can’t” - Jeffrey Epstein and his head pimp Ghislaine Maxwell (Mossad’s number 1 agent in the UK who started the Kompromat sex scene Epstein was handed turnkey) ran a major Mossad operation in the US with the full knowledge of certain elements of US intel and counterintel agency units. They did nothing, and bought the corrupt info from Mossad.
Goldwater was exceptional. Remember the “nuke daisy” tv ad that LBJ (the absolute scum sucking murderous excrement who expanded the Vietnam war. Paranoid, and manipulative. SEE/Hear the tapes of his phone conversations with Sen. Richard Russell of Georgia). Goldwater did a great deal to create young conservatives.. for Freedom.
