Obese Passenger Accuses United airlines of Discrimination For Narrow Aisles
Live And Let's Fly ^ | 5/18/2023 | Matthew Klint

A “plus size model” who posts under “Big Curvy Olivia” on Tik Tok has accused United Airlines of discriminating against her and other passengers of size after she struggled to wedge herself through the Polaris Business Class cabin on a recent flight.

She faulted United for discrimination, lamenting that it should build wider aisles on its aircraft.

Admittedly, I’m covering this somewhat out of amusement: it is not my aim to fat-shame this woman and I do question whether she is even serious. First, she has a backpack on. Maybe you try removing that before wedging yourself through a tight space? She looks like one of those rude people whose backpack hits those around her when walking down an aisle because they are too self-centered or oblivious to remove it. Second, maybe use this moment as a wake-up call to take control of your body?

If I was running for Congress, my pet peeve issue would be preventative health. The obesity around us amazes me (and the reason for that, ranging not just from a lack of self-discipline, but due to food insecurity and food deserts and the prohibitive cost of preventive healthcare, cries out for a far greater emphasis in terms of public policy).

Every time I cover a story like this, I think of the analysis below by Bill Maher. With malice toward none and charity toward all, I admonish us all to take care of the only body we have. The best way we can do so is by eating right, exercising, and sleeping. And let us not embrace the confusion of calling such efforts hateful—

He’s spot on. Every member of the human family should be afforded dignity and respect, but this idea that it is cool or fashionable to be obese is a destructive and perverted form of wokery run amok.

Ok, I’m stepping off the soap box.

As for Olivia, recognition of the problem is the first step toward recovery. People are not laughing with you, but at you. In all sincerity, don’t wait any longer. I wish you all the best.

She must be pushing for substantial aisle expansions in wide-body aircraft, or in jumbo-jets, to accommodate the morbidly obese passengers.   (I'm wondering, if those planes were completely filled with those wide and heavy passengers, would they really be able to get airborne?)

She is the problem not the airlines.
Did she buy a ticket for only one seat?

They should charge her a fuel surcharge. And also make her buy two seats.

As a skinny guy who has to deal with these fat a$$es brushing into my space on a plane, I feel I should be entitled to some kind of consideration for my trauma.

Right on! How about aisles six feet wide and two columns of seats at 40 inches each. It would be a real money maker!

If I were the captain of a plane she was on, I would absolutely deny her boarding. She is a danger to the other passengers - not only because she would block the aisles and overwing exits in evacuations but I doubt the seats are designed to operate correctly in emergency conditions under that much weight.

An air carrier with a takeoff weight over 300,000 lbs is classified as a HEAVY. Just saying.

You don’t have to be plus size to agree that the aisles are too narrow. Maybe jets for international flights are roomier; I’ve never been on one, but I always feel like I’m in a tin can in an domestic flight.
