The Joint Study Committee on the Electrification of Transportation has endorsed the Georgia Department of Transportation’s pilot program taxing motorists based on vehicle miles traveled. Charging a mileage tax would recoup what state leaders see as a potential loss in revenue via the gas tax. Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, suspended the gas tax to help Georgians counter rising inflation. So far, the state hasn’t seen much of an impact from not collecting the gas tax, which typically totals about $170 million per month. The state has seen its other revenues increase and has turned to federal handouts for various...

LONDON (AP) — Climate change is the global economy’s biggest long-term challenge but one the world is least prepared to tackle because of short-term problems led by a cost-of-living crisis, the World Economic Forum said in a report Wednesday. The group’s Global Risks Report, released ahead of its annual gathering of government leaders and business elites next week in the Swiss Alpine resort of Davos, offers a bleak outlook. Today's Morning Joe continued its campaign of defending Joe Biden in connection with his possession of classified documents in his private office. Yesterday, we described how the show quite literally turned itself into a law firm, as it sought to distinguish Biden's case with that of Donald Trump. Today, Joe Scarborough took things a big step further, virtually instructing AG Merrick Garland to prosecute Donald Trump . . . but not Biden. Why? Because, declared Scarborough unequivocally, "Joe Biden didn't commit a crime!"Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

Republican Indiana Rep. Lorissa Sweet introduced legislation Tuesday that would ban child gender transitions in the state. The bill would block medical professionals from subjecting minors to procedures or activities that change, affirm or enforce a child’s gender identity when that identity is different from his or her biological sex. Child gender transitions, including social transitions, medications and surgeries, remain legal in most states, though a handful of conservative states have cracked down on the procedures in recent years. The bill explicitly bans puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors, along with thirteen surgeries including mastectomies, hysterectomies, phalloplasty and penectomies....

The boss of the feared Russian Wagner mercenary group has gloated to Ukraine by posing in a salt mine in a key battleground. Yevgeny Prigozhin stood defiantly alongside Vladimir Putin's private paramilitary fighters in the Soledar pit as he claimed his mercenaries have single-handedly taken control of the eastern Ukraine town, which has been razed by brutal fighting. However, the claim prompted the Russian army to issue a statement saying fighting for the town is still on-going, thus denying Prigozhin's brazen claim. The unusual contradiction from Moscow raises questions over whether the Russian president has lost control of the Wagner...

Intubation of an infant with any lung condition, or even an adult with severe COVID-19 using either ventilation or extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), comes with risks and side effects that could cause permanent damage not limited to the lungs. Consider this: The human intestine receives almost one-third of the body's cardiac output. What if we could spare oxygen in the gut and redistribute oxygen to other body districts to avoid intubation? Researchers have found that an extra amount of oxygen is available to organs critical for the survival of the individual, including the heart, brain, kidneys and liver, by reducing...

Just yesterday, the news of several classified documents being discovered at Joe Biden's former office at his Washington think tank, the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, caused headlines. Almost every media pundit focused on the mishandling of classified information, but there was another shocking revelation in this story that went largely ignored. It began with the astounding disclosure that Joe Biden, who is among the least thoughtful men in the U.S., founded and runs a think tank. It seems utterly unfathomable that Biden would lead a group whose function is to conduct 'research, analysis, and commentary on...

The question now, of course, is whether the shooter’s use of deadly defensive force to stop Washington’s armed robbery was justified on the legal merits. The answer?
