“When I am back in the White House, the drug kingpins and vicious traffickers will never sleep soundly again.”
Former president Donald Trump unveiled a plan to deploy special forces against drug cartels if he is to be reelected in 2024 last week.
Trump revealed the strategy in a video posted to Truth Social
“Joe Biden has sided against the United States and with the cartels,” Trump said. “Biden’s open border policies are a deadly betrayal of our nation.”
“When I am president, it will be the policy of the United States to take down the cartels, just as we took down ISIS and the ISIS caliphate – and just as, unlike the situation we are in today, we had a very, very strong border,” he added.
“The drug cartels are waging war on America—and it’s now time for America to wage war on the cartels,” Trump stated. “The drug cartels and their allies in the Biden administration have the blood of countless millions on their hands.”

“And now we’re laughed at all over the world, and we’re not going to let that happen much longer,” Trump said.
The 45th president continued, “Millions and millions of families and people are being destroyed. When I am back in the White House, the drug kingpins and vicious traffickers will never sleep soundly again.”
Trump’s proposed action items against the cartel included the following:
• “Restore all Trump border policies and fully secure the border”
• “Deploy all necessary military assets, including the US Navy, to impose a full naval embargo on the cartels, to ensure they cannot use our region’s waters to traffic illicit drugs to the US”
• “Order the Department of Defense to make appropriate use of special forces, cyber warfare, and other covert and overt actions to inflict maximum damage on cartel leadership, infrastructure, and operations”
• “Designate the major drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations”
• “Cut off the cartels’ access to the global financial system”
• “Get full cooperation of neighboring governments to dismantle the cartels, or else fully expose the bribes and corruption that protect these criminal networks”
• “Ask Congress to ensure drug smugglers and traffickers can receive the Death Penalty”

This will be interesting.
I don’t think people truly comprehend how embedded the Cartels in Mexico are in the Mexican government at all levels. Because of this, we will have to remove the Mexican government all the way down to the police chief in the smallest towns and their judicial system.

With the number of MS13 gang members in the United States, you start drone striking the cartels in Mexico, and you're going to start a terror campaign here in the U.S. that will rival anything on the streets of Juarez.
It has to be done, but be prepared for the collateral damage in the United States.

A Declaration of War is only used against a sovereign entity, like a nation. The declaration is then rescinded in the treaty that ends the war.
Against a non-sovereign, the correct instrument is a Congressional Authorization for the Use of Force. This was used against the Barbary Pirates and al-Quaeda. This is what would be used as the tool to take on the Mexican drug cartels. As long as the Mexican government goes along with us, it would free us to act against them.
Politically, it would be a problem for the Mexican government to go along with us. Mexicans are very sensitive about their borders, and they have a long and unpleasant history with the gringos from El Norte. Our military involvement could turn the Mexican people into seeing the gangsters as freedom fighters. Right now, Mexico is in the midst of a civil war similar to the one a century ago. The government in Mexico City controls a small part of the country with the cartels controlling the rest.
There is one other issue. The Mexicans would say, "You gringos are the biggest market for illegal drugs in the hemisphere. Set your own house in order before coming down here to mess up ours." And they would have a valid point. Do we declare martial law and have a National Drug Test with the death penalty for users? Do we authorize a quick execution outside the law for dealers? The key is how serious we intend to get on this issue. How far are we willing to go at home?

I believe Ret. Col. Oliver North went on trial about this.
Way back when his hair was black.
To: rarestia
This is much harder than Nicaragua.
There were two sides in Nicaragua at that time and we backed one and attacked the other.
There are cartels and tribal factions, but it will be hard to find any “allies” in Mexico.
I would like to see this problem fixed, but I have sympathy for the Mexican people. They have no choice because they have little security and the rule of law is really a rule of force.
It is easy for us to criticize their government officials and law enforcement, but imagine living in a community that is ruled by the cartels. They can disappear, torture, and kill your family at any moment. It has gotten so bad that they can actually take on the Mexican Marines (their primary counter-cartel force) directly - toe to toe.
I have often asked myself what I would do in such a situation.... Plato or plomo but its much worse and I cannot do the translation for “gold or your kids”.
The cartels are brutal. They are much more brutal than we are and they will drag us down to their level to win because that is what it would take.... total annihilation.

Honest question and I am not being snarky but how in the world would anyone be dumb enough to trust the word of the American government?
The “Mexican officials” who live there have families and homes in Cartel Land.
What would you deem more realistic - a promise from Lindsey Graham that we would support and protect you OR a promise from the Cartel that we will kill you after we kill your entire family?
We will NOT be able to do this through the Mexican government. In order to accomplish this we would have to act outside of the Mexican government, which is entirely corrupted (for good reason).
Only an idiot would trust the American government. Ask those who helped us in Iraq and Afghanistan how that worked out for them? Oh wait, you can’t. We left and they are dead.
Foreigners see the problem with America more clearly than we do - one administration comes in for 4 years and declares war on the cartels (Trump) - next administration (Newsome) comes in and declares amnesty and opens border again.
America is a tough nation to do business with because the political swings are so extreme. How many billions did the Keystone Pipeline group lose in Canada?
We are consistently inconsistent. We would be asking real people, with families, to believe that we would be consistent and it will take far longer than 4 years to “win”.
I would NOT join Team America in Mexico.

Using the military for law enforcement is a bad idea. Anything that gets involved with the cartels will end up corrupted and useless — too much money at stake.

Death penalty for users? We would have to replace 85% of congress.

When Pancho Villa was raiding along the border in 1916, Wilson sent Black Jack Pershing into Mexico in an attempt to kill or capture Villa. The U S Cavalry, including the 7th Cavalry, patrolled the border until 1942 when the horse cavalry was abolished.

President Trump kept his promise to build a wall on our southern border between the United States and Mexico. With 450 miles complete—and many more in progress—illegal crossings plummeted over 87 percent in areas where the wall went up.
By enforcing America’s immigration laws, President Trump made major gains toward ending the humanitarian crisis at our border; keeping criminals, terrorists, and drugs out of our country; and protecting American workers and taxpayers against job loss and misuse of the welfare system.
President Trump Visits the Border Wall in Calexico, California
Administration Achievements
ACHIEVING A SECURE BORDER
Secured the Southern Border of the United States
- Built over 400 miles of the world’s most robust and advanced border wall

- Deployed nearly 5,000 troops to the Southern border. In addition, Mexico deployed tens of thousands of their own soldiers and national guardsmen to secure their side of the U.S.–Mexico border

- Entered into three historic asylum cooperation agreements with Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala to stop asylum fraud and resettle illegal migrants in third-party nations pending their asylum applications
- Entered into a historic partnership with Mexico, referred to as the “Migrant Protection Protocols,” to safely return asylum-seekers to Mexico while awaiting hearings in the United States
Fully enforced the immigration laws of the United States
- Signed an executive order to strip discretionary Federal grant funding from deadly “sanctuary” cities
- Fully enforced and implemented statutorily authorized “expedited removal” of illegal aliens
- The Department of Justice prosecuted a record-breaking number of immigration-related crimes
- Used Section 243(d) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) to reduce the number of aliens coming from countries whose governments refuse to accept their nationals who were ordered removed from the United States

- Suspended, via regulation, asylum for aliens who had skipped previous countries where they were eligible for asylum but opted to “forum shop” and continue to the United States
- Safeguarded migrant families, and protected migrant safety, by promulgating new regulations under the Flores Settlement Agreement
- Proposed regulations to end the practice of giving free work permits to illegal aliens lodging meritless asylum claims
- Issued “internal relocation” guidance
- Cross-trained United States Border Patrol agents to conduct credible fear screenings alongside United States Citizenship and Immigration Services adjudication personnel to reduce massive backlogs

- Improved screening in countries with high overstay rates and reduced visa overstay rates in many of these countries
- Removed bureaucratic constraints on United States consular officers that reduced their ability to appropriately vet visa applicants
- Worked with Mexico and other regional partners to dismantle the human smuggling networks in our hemisphere that profit from human misery and fuel the border crisis by exploiting vulnerable populations
Secured our Nation’s immigration system against criminals and terrorists
- Instituted national security travel bans to keep out terrorists, jihadists, and violent extremists, and implemented a uniform security and information-sharing baseline that all nations must meet in order for their nationals to be able to travel and emigrate to the United States
- Suspended refugee resettlement from the world’s most dangerous and terror-afflicted regions
- Rebalanced refugee assistance to focus on overseas resettlement and burden-sharing
- 85 percent reduction in refugee resettlement
- Overhauled badly broken refugee security screening process

- Finalized new H-1B regulations to permanently end the displacement of United States workers and modify the administrative tools that are required for H-1B visa issuance
- Defended United States sovereignty by withdrawing from the United Nations’ Global Compact on Migration
- Suspended Employment Authorization Documents for aliens who arrive illegally between ports of entry and are ordered removed from the United States
- Restored integrity to the use of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) by strictly adhering to the statutory conditions required for TPS

I read your contrived list and nowhere does it mention that Trump declared cartels as terrorists and utilized special ops against them. Again, he had 4 years as President and failed to do this. He also failed at getting Mexico to pay for the wall.
He was successful at installing and embracing deep states such as Steve Mnuchin,Barr, Pence, Mulvaney, Mattis, Sims, Bolton, Wray, Milley, Fauci, Scaramucci, Kelly, Cohn, Griffin, McMaster, Cohen, Tillerson etc.
He also championed Operation Warped Greed which has and will continue to wreck havoc upon our health and economy.
