This week, we saw another incident of protesters shutting down an event to prevent others from hearing opposing views. At an event with commentator and author Ann Coulter, one protester yelled “Your words are violence.” It is the latest example of how some on the left are treating free speech as harm on college campuses. Unlike many other incidents, however, Cornell has stood by the right of the student group, Network of Enlightened Women, to hold the event and pledged to hold students accountable for the cancellation of the speech.Students and faculty previously pressured Cornell to cancel Coulter as someone...

This is the point in the story when we should probably summon Dr. McCoy to say, ‘he’s dead, Jim.’ The “he” in question would be the Iran nuclear deal, known around the White House as the JCPOA. The secretive, four-party talks that have been going on for well over a year never really came close to producing a functional deal, though most of us never heard any of the details. But now, at least according to one Trump administration official who was privy to the process, the entire thing is shut down with “no path forward.” The culprit is supposedly...

It suffices to say that Election Day didn't go as planned for some polling places that experienced and are still experiencing ballot-counting issues. Despite the varying election-related difficulties, multiple jurisdictions share one foreseen commonality. There's a common thread connecting five counties spread across several states that were in disarray on Election Day: federal "monitors." On the eve of the elections, the Biden administration's Department of Justice announced Monday it would be dispatching such monitors to as many as 64 jurisdictions in almost half of U.S. states on Election Day to oversee federal election law "compliance According to the DOJ's watch...

Did Pope Francis Protect His Graft-Ridden Cardinals?Yes, suggests a lawsuit from a fired Vatican auditor.A fired Vatican auditor and his deputy are suing the Holy See for $9.25 million, “alleging they were sacked after discovering financial irregularities,” according to an account by Reuters this week. The auditor, Libero Milone, says that Pope Francis signed off on his firing in 2017 after he exposed graft-ridden Vatican officials.Pope Francis appointed Milone to his position in 2015, ostensibly for the purpose of purifying the Vatican’s notoriously crooked finances and improving its financial practices. But, as usual, Pope Francis was more interested in talking...

Election judge Michele Swinick has come forward to report what she experienced in Maricopa County on Election Day. She worked Election Day as a judge at the Islamic Voting Center in Scottsdale, AZ. She reports that the center is heavily Republican, with “no party” designated voters as the second most populous demographic, followed by very few democrat voters, evidenced by the fact that she checked in very few of them on Election Day. She reports she spent the entire day checking in voters. Swinick says that the tabulators all worked “perfectly” during the test the night before the election. The...

(RNS) — Phoenix pastor Caleb Campbell has a theory about the growing number of Americans who are labeled as Christian nationalists. Most would rather go to Cracker Barrel than storm the Capitol. Many see themselves as good Christians who love their country. But somewhere along the way, they began to think being a good American and being a Christian were one and the same. “Their whole life has been the intermingling of their American civil religion and their Christian religion,” said Campbell, pastor of Desert Springs Bible Church and a self-described missionary to Christian nationalists. To help his fellow Christians...

The FTX crypto slush fund run by now-disgraced Sam Bankman-Fried (and his MIT college buddies) laundered money for Ukraine into nearly $40 million worth of campaign donations for Democrats in the 2022 mid-term elections. There are always reasons to doubt Russia is playing it straight. For years, Russian President Vladimir Putin has bundled U-turns and lies together, making it hard to distinguish between evasion and fiction, and weaponizing the toxic mix to blackmail, divide and bewilder his foes. In recent days, Russia has pulled out of the Black Sea grain deal, then gone back into it, and issued bloodcurdling threats of nuclear attack before reversing course to endorse the language of non-proliferation. This week, Putin ordered his forces to retreat from Kherson only weeks after declaring that the city would-be part of Russia “forever.”...

He had seen a resurgence of interest in the spirituality connected with the ancient order of Druids, which accompanied increased observances of folk festivals and a rise in the number of people learning Welsh. He...

Public coming-outs, that is, statements publicly celebrating one's homosexuality or transgenderism, are now being recognized as propaganda actions, and the bill to ban homosexual propaganda will partly return the idea of private life in society, which includes sexual behavior, said Vladimir Legoyda, Chairman of the Synodal Department of the Moscow Patriarchate for the Relations of the Church with Society. In October, the State Duma adopted in the first reading bills banning LGBT propaganda, as well as fines for it. The Russian Orthodox Church supported this legislative initiative. Later, the speaker of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin , allowed the appearance...

Taylor Sheridan, creator of "Yellowstone," is responding to critics who suggest the series is "anti-woke." "They refer to it as ‘the conservative show’…‘the Republican show’ or ‘the red-state ‘Game of Thrones,’ " Sheridan said during an interview with The Atlantic. "And I just sit back laughing. I’m like, ‘Really?’ The show’s talking about the displacement of Native Americans and the way Native American women were treated…about corporate greed…the gentrification of the West, and land-grabbing. That’s a red-state show?"
