Since the start of the modern party system in the decade before the Civil War, the House has changed majorities in a midterm election a little more than one-third of the time. But of the total 18 House majority changes in that time span, including presidential and midterm election years, more than three-quarters have occurred during a midterm.1 The table below lists the majority changes. Bolded text indicates a presidential election year. Italic text indicates that the Senate also changed majorities.

The state has canceled the upcoming fire civil-service promotional exam and “will not score” the recent statewide exam for police in light of a recent Boston-based court case. The court case in question is Tatum et al v. Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a suit from several Black or Hispanic police officers filed back in 2009 as they claimed that the civil-service sergeants’ promotional exam disadvantaged minority test takers, leading to lower scores and therefore delayed or missed promotions through the centralized and highly regimented process used by many police and fire departments.

... The weather in Palm Beach, Florida, was finally easing and the forecast for Saturday, her wedding day, looked sunny and warm. Two people familiar with the bride-to-be’s mood tell CNN that Donald Trump’s younger daughter, his only child with second wife Marla Maples, had been “stressed” about the late-season storm and what it might mean for her Mar-a-Lago celebration with 25-year-old Michael Boulos. But even though Tropical Storm Nicole is moving on, the Trumps may still be in for some tumult over the weekend. They’re gathering as their patriarch makes moves toward a 2024 presidential run, a prospect not...

The 2022 midterm elections ended with a heap of disappointments and shattered expectations for the Republican party. As the nation waits patiently for final tallies to trickle in and determine party power, one thing is for certain: Florida governor Ron DeSantis selfishly hoarded the entire red wave for himself. GOP insiders are livid at DeSantis, claiming there was plenty of red wave to go around. "While we're glad to see DeSantis win Florida, it's obvious he didn't need the whole batch of red wave to get the job done," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the GOP puppetmaster adept at...

Fox News Digital previously reported that extremely sexually explicit books were provided to military children in DoDEA schools FIRST ON FOX – President Biden's Pentagon recently added many radical-left and so-called antiracist books into K-12 school libraries for military children, a Fox News Digital investigation has found. Fox News looked into over 50 schools, selected at random, at the Department of Defense Education Activity, which services over 66,000 military-connected children in the Americas, Europe and the Pacific. The investigation found that over the past two years, DoDEA has been stuffing antiracist literature into nearly every single school library. One of...

The designated Minister of Internal Security Itamar Ben Gvir is initiating the doubling of the prison sentence for a sexual offense that will also be recognized as a nationalist crime, with the light sentence given to the (bir-hadaj) Bedouin youth who sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in her parents' home. Ben Gvir demands the doubling of the punishment for offenses with a lower threshold, such as an indecent act. Channel 13.

Today on this Veterans Day, I pray that all Americans will set aside our differences to honor those men and women whose sacrifices have allowed us to live in freedom. Thirty years ago, I arrived at the United States Military Academy at West Point as a cadet with amazing young men and women from around the country. Throughout my time at West Point and then the U.S. Army, I served with people of every faith, race, social-economic class, and creed. They were literally from all walks of life in America, but they shared something in common: a love and respect...

Teenager Chloe Cole started on puberty blockers and testosterone at 13, underwent a double mastectomy at 15 and detransitioned from male to female at 16. Cole said Thursday on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" that doctors pushed transitioning as the way to treat her gender dysphoria. She was 12 when she told her parents she was "distressed" with her gender and wanted to transition from female to male. "They were concerned, and they wanted what was best for me, but they weren’t really sure what to do with me, so they sought professional help, and from then on, I was basically referred...

The popular Boston-area coffee chain Darwin’s Ltd. announced plans to close the store’s original Harvard Square location at the end of the month, prompting some workers to stage a protest at Cambridge City Hall on Sunday denouncing the move. The Mount Auburn St. location is set to close its doors after 30 years this December, owners Steven and Isabel Darwin announced in an Instagram post on Oct. 26. Darwin’s United — a union representing the chain’s employees — responded by organizing a protest at City Hall, where workers rallied on Sunday before gathering outside the Darwins’ Cambridge home. “We have...

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A man is accused of trying to kill a man after their “mutual slap box fight” got out of control over the weekend, NBC Miami reports. When the slapping became more violent, one man, identified as Eric Rodriguez, knocked the other to the ground, and started punching and kicking him until he was unconscious. Police said the victim was hospitalized...

Republican Adam Laxalt is currently leading unpopular Democrat Catherine Cortez 49% to 48% in Nevada’s U.S. Senate race. Laxalt earlier on Thursday announced that his opponent had no path to victory. But then this happened… Anthony Scott reported earlier on the cameras going dark in Washoe County. As of right now, only 90% of the vote is in and counties all across the state are still counting ballots. In order to have some kind of “transparency” many of these counties have been live-streaming ballot counting. One of those counties counting ballots while live streaming is Washoe County. However, “transparency” went...

The cable news experts keep repeating their new mantra of division, claiming Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is now set up to take out President Trump for 2024. Consider where this information is coming from and what their motivations might be, before you buy into it in the slightest. If Governor DeSantis does in fact wants to be president some day, he should be willing to express his gratitude to President Trump for getting him over the line in 2018. Instead, many DeSantis backers are echoing the sentiments of CNN this week. It’s an unnecessary distraction. The Make America Great Again...

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – A Florida man has been arrested after committing multiple fraudulent transactions while pretending to be an Irish national. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement became aware of a man using the pseudonym “Declan Quinn” to commit fraud in February. Following an investigation, agents found that “Quinn” had won the position of HOA Board of Directors presidents at his Washington County neighborhood. He also used his standing in his community to obtain a $17,000 loan fraudulently. The fake name was even used to sign a notarized promissory note stating he would repay the loan, which he failed...

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), a close ally of former President Trump, says Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) should stay on as governor amid rumors that he could challenge Trump for the GOP nomination in 2024. Greene did not directly mention DeSantis’s potential interest in a 2024 run in a Twitter thread on Friday but said that losing a “strong Republican governor” early because political consultants are urging them to run for president hurts the country because it leaves their states weak and vulnerable to poor leadership or Democratic control.

Luke 17:26-37 Friends, in today’s Gospel passage, the Lord compares the clueless behavior of our time with that of Noah. Listen to his warning: “Jesus said to his disciples: ‘As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the days of the Son of Man.’” Those aren’t very reassuring words. Then he specifies: people were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage right up to the time of the flood, and then, when it came, with shocking suddenness, they were destroyed. The end of an old world had arrived, but the inhabitants of that...
