Michigan's top court ruled on Thursday that voters should get to decide whether to amend their state constitution to protect abortion rights, handing a win to advocates who petitioned to put the measure on the November ballot. Reproductive Freedom for All, an abortion-rights advocacy group, amassed more than 730,000 signatures in support of putting a state constitutional amendment affirming the right to abortion on the general election ballot. The group appealed to the Democratic-leaning state Supreme Court last week after the state canvassing board deadlocked over whether to allow the issue to go before voters. The two Republicans on the...

The Justice Department on Thursday informed the court that it will appeal the federal judge's order for the appointment of a special master to review the records seized by the FBI during its unprecedented raid of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, if the court does not grant the government a stay in the case. The Justice Department filed a "notice of appeal" to U.S. District Judge from the Southern District of Florida Judge Aileen M. Cannon on Thursday. The filing specifically states that the government "respectfully moves for a partial stay" pending its appeal of Cannon's ruling Monday, which ordered...

The Vatican is tying itself into knots in China Does its strategy mean that members of the underground Church will be left twisting in the wind?Last month Pope Francis appointed 20 new Cardinals at a consistory, a special meeting in Rome, bringing the world’s total to 226.One conspicuous absence was Hong Kong’s Cardinal Joseph Zen. Trump has only hinted at the possibility of running again in 2024, and it is unclear whether he will mount a successful comeback two years from now. But for House Democrats, the writing on the wall is a bit clearer – polls consistently show Republicans are likely to take back control of the House during the midterms. According to Fox News power rankings, Republicans are expected to win the House this November but on a slimmer margin than previously forecast, while neither party can yet claim a majority in the Senate. That means Democrats may have just a few months...

When European leaders meet in Brussels on Friday to tackle the continent’s energy crisis, politicians will be focused on windfall taxes and energy price caps. And no wonder: spiralling electricity costs are creating mounting pain for households and businesses — and political upheaval. However, investors should keep an eye on another item on the agenda: their approach to energy derivatives markets, clearing houses and exchanges. This might seem arcane but the issues now bubbling in the derivatives sphere represent another potential time bomb for Europe — one that needs to be urgently addressed.

I have to laugh, America. Because never before has Bill Barr been in such demand by any network. Now he's everywhere like a bad rash. Of course I wouldn't know that. But that said, he's everywhere and his pearls of wisdom. Wow. It's amazing to me, we have Republicans on television saying, like our "friend" Karl Rove and others, well now :we have to stop focusing on Trump, we have to get to the issues." Then we have Bill Barr who is from that wing of the Republican party all over the place not to talk about the corrupt Department...
