A man who identified himself as the baby's uncle in a television interview with the British Sky News network said, "It was originallytaken during a rally or a graduation party at the university." Aussie officials are now particularly concerned about flights from Indonesia, where cattle are currently experiencing a foot and mouth disease outbreak, according to CNN. The passenger, whose identity has not been released, had not declared the Mcdonald’s breakfast order before arriving last week at Darwin Airport in the country’s Northern Territory. “This will be the most...

Memorial of Saint Alphonsus Liguori, Bishop and Doctor of the Church Matthew 14:13–21 Friends, our Gospel today tells about the feeding of the five thousand. Jesus instructs the crowd to recline, and they do so on the grass. Taking the loaves and dried fish, Jesus makes a meal that satisfies the enormous crowd. They are hungry, tired, and worn out from their exertions, and Jesus gives them sustenance for the day. For Thomas Aquinas, the great metaphor for the Eucharist is sustenance, food for the journey. The Eucharist is daily food, sustenance for the journey, nourishment to get us through...

The explosion was spotted on July 31 at around 2309 UT and Earth-orbiting satellites registered a long-lasting C9.3-class solar flare. "The intensity is probably an underestimate because it was partially eclipsed by the edge of the sun. Nasa's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) saw hot debris flying away from the blast site," spaceweather, which tracks the solar activity, reported. While the explosion was powerful, experts have predicted that Earth is not in the line of fire from the Sun. Scientists are expected to get a view of the active region later this week as it comes to sight. With the sun’s...

Economist Paul Krugman argued on Sunday the United States is not in a recession and it doesn’t matter anyway. “None of the criteria that real experts use says we’re in a recession right now, and what does it matter?” he dismissively told CNN’s Brian Stelter. “The state of the economy is what it is. Jobs are abundant, although maybe the job market is weakening. Inflation is high, although maybe inflation is coming down. What does it matter whether you use the “r” word or not?” The Left has been fiercely pushing back on the definition of a recession, commonly accepted...

The impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent landmark decision on firearms is reverberating throughout Massachusetts and in particular in Springfield where the Police Department found its decades-old practice of routinely restricting — or even denying — licenses to carry firearms was suddenly unconstitutional. “With the new changes from the Supreme Court decision, that’s all gone,” said Deputy Police Chief William Cochrane. ... The concern among lawmakers is that Bruen will chip away at Massachusetts’ gun laws, considered among the toughest in the nation, that have been on the books for decades and longer in some instances. The first law...

ORINDA, Calif. — They waved signs that read “Defeat the mandates” and “No vaccines.” They chanted “Protect our kids” and “Our kids, our choice.” Almost everyone in the crowd of more than three dozen was a parent. And as they protested on a recent Friday in the Bay Area suburb of Orinda, Calif., they had the same refrain: They were there for their children. Most had never been to a political rally before. But after seeing their children isolated and despondent early in the coronavirus pandemic, they despaired, they said. On Facebook, they found other worried parents who sympathized with...

An appellate court on Monday ruled that the injunction on Michigan's pre-Roe 1931 abortion ban does not apply to local prosecutors, allowing them to enforce the law. The ban was temporarily blocked in May, allowing for abortion to remain legal in Michigan. Two county prosecutors then sued to stop that order, but the Michigan Court of Appeals dismissed their case because the preliminary injunction "does not apply to county prosecutors." State officials are still blocked from enforcing the ban. The appeals court's ruling will take effect in 21 days.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has received more donations from Democrat-controlled California than any other state, including Wyoming, Federal Election Commission (FEC) data revealed about Cheney’s fundraising for the Republican primary, which will be held on August 16. “More than 1,100 Californians contributed nearly a tenth of the $13 million Cheney raised through June 30 for her reelection campaign,” the Los Angeles Times reported. “In that period, she received donations from just over 200 Wyoming residents, totaling more than $260,000.” The data represents donations from individuals under the Federal Election Commission’s $200 threshold. The data excludes donations from PACs for fundraising...

Dr. Anthony Fauci’s recent comments on menstrual irregularities met with serious rebuttal from gynecologists, who say COVID-19 vaccines should not have been injected into pregnant women without adequate safety testing. “Well, the menstrual thing is something that seems to be quite transient and temporary, that’s one of the points,” Fauci said in an appearance on Fox News on July 25, upon being asked about the effect of vaccines on menstrual cycles. “We need to study it more,” Fauci added. Fauci is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and has been a frontman for COVID...

The motion of single atoms through liquid has been caught on camera for the first time. Using a sandwich of materials so thin they're effectively two-dimensional, scientists trapped and observed platinum atoms 'swimming' along a surface under different pressures. The results will help us better understand how the presence of liquid alters the behavior of a solid with which it is in contact – which, in turn, has implications that could in the development of new substances and materials. "Given the widespread industrial and scientific importance of such behavior it is truly surprising how much we still have to learn...
