New York (CNN Business)US inflation took a breather last month for the first time since August. Prices still increased, but at a slower pace than in previous months. The Consumer Price Index was up 8.3% in the 12 months ended in April, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday, slightly higher than economists had predicted. It was a decrease from the 8.5% recorded in March, which had been the highest level in more than 40 years.

Back in December, Twitter censored and suspended a Twitter account that was following the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell and providing detailed coverage. Apparently, liberals working behind closed doors at the tech giant weren’t happy about this activity on the social platform. One person said, “It is also ‘interesting’ that the account tracking the ’s trial got banned when it gained traction. Lovely people indeed.” “Where is their “client” list? Shouldn’t at least one of them go down!?” Musk wrote. Here’s a look at the conversation:

When I was in high school I worked at my local library (I know — nerd alert). I loved being able to be one of the first to see new books when they came in and learning about new authors, but one nice advantage as a teenage boy was to get to see the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue before most subscribers received it in their mailboxes. For nearly 60 years, Sports Illustrated has entertained millions of men with its yearly swimsuit edition. Readers anticipate the swimsuit issue for the beautiful women, but I’d wager that they don’t approach it for...

Barnabas and Saul completed their task and came back from Jerusalem, bringing John Mark with them. In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy...

Global stocks of refined petroleum products have fallen to critically low levels as refineries prove unable to keep up with surging demand especially for the diesel-like fuels used in manufacturing and freight transportation. The result has been a surge in prices refiners receive for selling fuels compared with prices they pay for buying crude and other feedstocks, boosting their profitability significantly. In the United States, refiners currently receive roughly an average of more than $150 per barrel from the sale of gasoline and diesel at wholesale prices, while paying only around $100 to purchase crude. The indicative 3-2-1 margin of...

FORTRESS MONROE, Friday May 9, via Baltimore, Saturday, May 10. The Merrimac remained off the point all night. The Monitor went up this forenoon and fired a few above into Sewall's Point. The Rip Raus battery also opened briskly, a large number of the shots striking in the wood. Many comparison are drawn between the enterprise of the naval fleets here and at New-Orleans. U.S. FLAGSHIP MINNESOTA, HAMPTON Roads, Va., May 9, 1862. His Excellency the President of the United States: Sir: Agreeably to a communication just received from Hon. EDWIN M. STANTON, I have the honor to report that...

“‘They love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full’” (Matthew 6:5). In Jesus’ time, the synagogues were the likeliest and most appropriate places for sincere public praying. Devout Jews also offered many prayers on street corners, if that’s where they were at the appointed hour of prayer. But the word Jesus uses here indicates a major street, and therefore a major street corner where a bigger crowd would likely be. By inference the hypocrites were at...

The psalmist writes the following about one of God’s greatest promises: “If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments, if they break my statutes and do not keep my commandments, then I will punish their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless my lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him, nor allow my faithfulness to fail” (Psalm 89:30-33, NKJV). God promises to never remove his lovingkindness from us, no matter how badly we may fall. However, many believers skip lightly over the heavy warning in this verse. If we forsake God’s...

Yes, homebuyers are jumping into a generally slowing housing market to “beat the heat.” That is, beat The Fed’s monetary tightening. On Tuesday’s “CNN Tonight,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg responded to a question on whether the spending in the American Rescue Plan is partially to blame for inflation by stating that “we have a lot of the issues that are associated with those very low unemployment rates” as a result of the American Rescue Plan. Host Don Lemon asked, “President Biden is blaming the pandemic and Putin’s war for inflation. But what about that $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan? The San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank concluded last year, Secretary, that the stimulus contributed to inflation. Shouldn’t at least part of the...

Republican luminaries and groups in Georgia and across the country are making one final push to ensure Gov. Brian Kemp fends off a challenge from former Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), openly defying former President Trump in the state’s closely watched primary. In recent weeks, Kemp has received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and is slated to attend a fundraiser alongside former President George W. Bush. He’s also been the beneficiary of some $5 million in spending by the Republican Governors Association, which has been running ads for months touting his record in office. The outside help comes...

I've spent most of my life around guns. As an NRA-certified pistol instructor and Army Veteran, I've owned and used firearms for over 20 years. And as a Black father who has lost a son, I grieve with the countless families who have felt the toll that gun violence takes on our bodies and communities. I understand, more than most, how grave a threat guns are when they fall into the wrong hands.

A majority of Americans say they are worried about being able to maintain their standard of living, poll results released Monday by Gallup showed. Fifty-two percent saw they are worried about their standard of living, up four points from 2020. This is the first time a majority has worried about being able to maintain their standard of living since 2016, Gallup said. The worries are even more pronounced about lower-income Americans. The share of Americans earnings $40,000 or less who say they worried about maintaining their standard of living has soared 17 points 56 percent in 2021 to 73 percent...

A Fox News poll completed last week, the day before Politico published a draft majority opinion indicating that the Supreme Court will soon overturn Roe v. Wade, found that just 27% of respondents favored that outcome. Yet 54% thought their own states should ban abortion after 15 weeks of gestation -- the very policy at issue in the case before the Court. A sizable number of the respondents evidently did not realize that a 15-week ban is inconsistent with Roe, and similar anomalies in other surveys suggest such confusion is common. At the same time, polling data indicates that Americans'...

"He (Biden) may be the best person to have," Graham says. "I mean, how mad can you get at Joe Biden?" Blames Trump: "He plays the TV game and he went too far here," Graham said. "That rally didn't help, talking about primarying Liz [Cheney]. He created a sense of revenge."

In a post shared to his website Tuesday, Riordan slammed a subset of fans upset that the role of Annabeth, which is 'described as white in the books,' will be played by a young Black girl. 'Friends, that is racism,' he wrote.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) backed up celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz on Tuesday, calling attacks on his dual U.S.-Turkish citizenship “unsavory.” Oz’s campaign for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania has faced scrutiny for his close ties to Turkey, a nation run by autocrat Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In addition to his dual citizenship he has pledged to revoke if elected, resurfaced photos showed Oz voted in Turkey’s most recent presidential election while reportedly not voting in America’s election.
