CNN Reliable Sources host Brian Stelter could not answer why there is a “rush to dismiss Hunter [Biden’s laptop investigation] as not a relevant story” while quite a bit of coverage has gone to conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and the text messages of his wife, Ginni. While discussing the media’s influence on election narratives, the Reliable Sources panel on Sunday addressed whether Thomas should recuse himself in forthcoming Supreme Court election cases in light of his wife's texts that show she asked former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows to help overturn the 2020 elections. Sen. John Marty, (DFL) Roseville, told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS his proposed bill which would require gun owners to have a license would, in the long run, help save lives. Under Marty’s proposed bill, anyone purchasing a gun at a commercial business, gun shows or through individual sales, would have to acquire a license which would require gun safety education and training similar to what people have to do when they obtain a driver’s license. “It seems to me that it is no more of a burden on lawful gun owners than driver’s licenses are a lawful burden on drivers,” said...

Iraq is building a concrete wall along part of its border with Syria to stop ISIS group militants from infiltrating, an Iraqi military source said Sunday. In the "first stage" of construction, a wall around "a dozen kilometers (seven miles) long and 3.5 meters (11 feet) high was built in Nineveh province", in the Sinjar area of northwest Iraq, a senior officer told AFP, requesting anonymity. Iraq, which shares a more than 600-kilometer long border with Syria, seeks to "put a stop to the infiltration of ISIS members" into its territory, the source added, without specifying how long the wall...

While America's national average gas price has come down a few cents from its all-time high of $4.331 reached on March 11, Americans are still being socked in the wallet every time they have to fill up. As many Republicans have pointed out, this isn't the way it has to be, nor has it always been this way. Meanwhile, President Biden and Democrats in Congress have blamed everything but themselves and their policies for the increase in gas prices that have risen along with prices on other consumer goods to four-decade highs since Biden took office. The scapegoat created by...

Co-hosts of The View slammed actor Will Smith for slapping Chris Rock onstage at the Oscars Sunday night, calling his shocking outburst 'immature and childish,' but Whoopi Goldberg broke ranks to defend the actor, saying 'sometimes you behave badly.' The 53-year-old actor who won an Oscar later that evening marched onto the stage and hit Rock in the face, then returned to his seat and yelled, 'Keep my wife's name out your f---ing mouth!' after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's hair. The bizarre outburst led to swift backlash from millions of viewers, including The View co-hosts...

TALLAHASSEE — Opponents of a controversial 2021 law asked a federal judge this weekend to prevent the state from moving forward with surveys about “intellectual freedom and viewpoint diversity” on college and university campuses. Attorneys for students, faculty members and groups challenging the law filed an emergency motion Saturday seeking a temporary restraining order or a preliminary injunction. The motion said surveys could be distributed to college and university students and employees as soon as April 4. The opponents filed an overall challenge to the law last summer, contending that the surveys would violate the First Amendment. Under the law,...

The Media, Then and Now I realized several decades ago that newspapers and the broadcast media were no longer reliable sources for accurate reporting of events. That caused me to question whether they were ever accurate. As a child I remember the newspaper, the Journal, it held no interest to me but several friends earned money delivering it daily. We had a single radio station. On Sundays, my father would get the Sunday edition of the New York Times, the epitome of news reporting. The Grey Lady, “All The News That’s Fit to Print”, is that still on their front...

The draft ceasefire document does not contain any discussion of three of...

Iowa City Community School District offers teacher trainings in “ethnomathematics” and queer “Herstory,” according to documents obtained by Parents Defending Education (PDE). “Ethnomathematics: The Study of Math as a Cultural Activity,” is the name of the teacher training session at ICCSD where “educators will approach the mathematics classroom as ethnographers, exploring the origins of our current practices and questioning the hierarchies they produce.” “Teachers do not need to pretend to be ethnographers and study math through a cultural lens,” PDE Director of Outreach Erika Sanzi said in a statement. “They need to be able to teach students the math they...

After careful consideration, we have decided to reinstate our SAT/ACT requirement for future admissions cycles. Our research shows standardized tests help us better assess the academic preparedness of all applicants, and also help us identify socioeconomically disadvantaged students who lack access to advanced coursework or other enrichment opportunities that would otherwise demonstrate their readiness for MIT. We believe a requirement is more equitable and transparent than a test-optional policy. In the post below — and in a separate conversation with MIT News today — I explain more01 about how we think this decision helps us advance our mission.
