Jaskirat Sidhu is not a Canadian citizen and, under immigration laws, anyone convicted of a crime that carries a sentence of more than six months is subject to deportation. In 2021, Sidhu’s lawyer, Michael Greene submitted a 415-page binder with his arguments against deportation, citing his client’s extreme level of remorse, no criminal history, no drugs, alcohol, excessive speed, or pattern of reckless driving, and his low risk to re-offend. CBSA has rejected Sidhu’s bid to stay in Canada and offered no substantive reasons for the decision beyond restating the laws surrounding criminal convictions and deportations. First Week of Lent Matthew 5:43-48 Friends, today’s Gospel tells us to love our enemies so that we may be like the Father.and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.” In every case, his grace comes first, and grace is all that he has to give. This is why the comparison to the sun and the rain is so apt. The sun doesn’t ask who deserves its warmth or its light before it shines. It just shines, and both good and bad people receive it. Neither does the rain inquire as to the moral rectitude of those...

Lawyers for actor Alec Baldwin filed an arbitration demand on Friday arguing that his Rust film contract protects him from financial responsibility for the shooting that led to Halyna Hutchins’ death on the New Mexico set of the film last year. Laying partial blame for the shooting on Hutchins, the filing says, “She directed Baldwin to hold the gun higher, to a point where it was directed toward her. She was looking...

There’s a massive cultural divide here that is very hard to reconcile. If you live in a big city or a major metropolitan area, you very likely think about guns differently than someone who grew up in a rural area.
