Austin ISD on target to decrease student arrests, disparity in disciplinary actions

Austin Independent School District police are on target to meet its goals to decrease student arrests and use of force, according to data released from the district.

The goals were set for the district after a disparity was found in the treatment of Black and white students when it comes to use-of-force incidents.

At the Thursday AISD board meeting, data showed there has been a 47% drop in total disciplinary incidents for Black students, compared to the 2018 and 2019 school years, the last non-pandemic year.

Data also showed a 39% drop in total disciplinary incidents for special education students since that same year.

“It’s important that we are responsible for how we respond to our students. It is important that we don’t get emotionally compromised with students, because we are in a power struggle with the situation,” said AISD Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde.

The data still found a disproportionate number of incidents involving Black, Hispanic and special education students. AISD police are addressing the number through new training and guidelines.

“By really looking at things differently than how we were looking at them before when we respond to an incident, our concern is not really has a crime been committed, but really has a student been engaged in an incident and how can we help that student,” said AISD Police Chief Ashley Gonzalez.

When it comes to arrests, AISD police have arrested 15 students total, compared to 442 three years ago.

The district’s overall goal is to get to zero arrests.

So they are letting the ferals get away with whatever. They’re letting them do whatever they want to do. Did these morons not learn anything from the Parkland shooting?

This is all very fine until another Stoneman Douglas event happens.

The left has already condoned segregation in universities (only when it suits their narrative, of course). The logical conclusion to the problem above will become more and more obvious.

So, the claim is they’ve reduced the incidence of crime by not enforcing the law. The question is, has the situation in the school stayed the same, gotten better, or gotten worse?

“...The data still found a disproportionate number of incidents involving Black, Hispanic and special education students. ...”

could it be cause a disproportionate number of black hispanic and special needs students commit these crimes??

Diversity is a cancer to American society.

So we are talking 2020-2021 numbers. Seem to remember some reason that students may have not been on campus in 2020-2021 and any reduction might just have been less chance. Add some more absenteeism because of the Covid and 35% less of anything is not impressive in 2019-2022 numbers.

Dont claim better numbers without equalizing days in classrooms. My local school district played with some more trivial numbers, on spending for a utility, in the exact same way. I interrupted a presentation to ask the number of days x was over, and the presenter was off his game for the rest of his discussion because his conclusion powerpoint had a exposed landmine.

If these people could only comprehend how monumentally inane that statement truly is.

Talk about creating a festering petri dish for unintended consequences.

What is that supposed to mean? It sounds like Kamala-speak.

This handwringing liberal bullshit was already tried at Stoneman Douglas in Parkland FL. It resulted in an ‘active-shooter’ event (as limp wristed liberals like to portray GUN [ooga booga] violence).

The ‘active shooter,’ a minority juvenile who had been the beneficiary of this ‘compassionate nonaction intervention’ to keep him out of the ‘criminal system’ even after a couple of dozen ‘events’ where real intervention could have been attained. NOTHING was done except for some concern was noted after the 23rd or 24th time and even then it wasn’t escalated to higher authority.

This all was a concerted effort by Broward County Sheriff Israel (a man who pandered to the Muslim Community) as well as the Principal of the school. Take the ‘victims’ out of the ‘system’ and deal with them in their own misguided psychology (psychosis, IMO). It ended with many childrens’ deaths. It also got us David Hogg....

Good luck with that crap, Austin. You’re headed for another Stoneman Douglas. Sheesh.

Just another inane Democratic policy of refusing to punish law breakers. To what end is their plan?

IIRC, saint trayvon was caught with stolen jewelry in HS and they did nothing about it, which is why he was running around at night in Zimmerman’s neighborhood drinking drank and looking for trouble...
