On Sunday evening, House Sergeant-at-Arms William Walker, the former commander of the Washington D.C. National Guard, announced that the Capitol Police Board had issued an "emergency declaration" in response to the arrival of the anti-vaccine, pro-Trump "People's Convoy."... There is no question that it has been impressed upon leaders of the "People's Convoy" that any attempt to mimic the occupation of Ottawa, Canada's capital, in Washington D.C. will be met with a swift response from the police and military. The current deployment of National Guard soldiers has been extended through Wednesday and steel security fencing remains in place around the...

Shortly after the Russian invasion began, unconfirmed rumors spread widely across the internet of a mysterious Ukrainian fighter pilot in a MiG-29 gunning down six enemy aircraft within the first hours of the war. The unknown military hero, dubbed "The Ghost of Kyiv" on social media, had been taking to the skies since the invasion started and allegedly reached 21 confirmed Russian aircraft kills as of Wednesday, making the pilot the first supposed flying ace of the 21st century. "The Ghost of Kyiv," however, is almost certainly a myth, albeit an incredibly useful one as Ukraine tries to rally its...

Several demoralized Russian troops captured in Ukraine were allowed to call home over the weekend to tell their families they were safe and profess confusion about why they were sent to war. "Mama and Papa, I didn't want to come here. They forced me to," a Russian soldier said in videos purporting to show the phone calls that were taken by Ukraine's Interior Ministry and posted on YouTube. Videos and stills of captured or surrendered Russian troops also were posted on the Ukrainian Security Service's Facebook page.

CUPERTINO, CA—In an unprecedented effort to put additional pressure on Russia, Apple Inc. has announced they will be removing the entire country from Apple maps. "As far as we're concerned, Russia no longer exists on our detailed map of the entire world," said CEO Tim Cook from his vacation home in Beijing. "And if Apple Inc. says you don't exist, then you don't exist! Russia is now the East Atlantic Ocean. Take that, Russia!" Other tech companies are following suit, with Facebook and Twitter also blocking access in Russia. DoorDash and Uber Eats are still active, but will only allow...

A third set of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine ended Monday with little progress — as a Ukrainian official said the Kremlin was engaging in “tactics reminiscent of medieval siege warfare.” After the talks broke up, Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podolyak tweeted: “There are small positive subductions in improving the logistics of humanitarian corridors… Intensive consultations have continued on the basic political block of the regulations, along with a ceasefire and security guarantees.” Meanwhile, Agence France-Presse reported that Russia’s main negotiator said Moscow’s expectations are “not fulfilled.” The latest negotiation attempt came as Russia continued to pound its neighbor with...

What is the current administration’s endgame in Eastern Europe? Barack Obama has condemned Vladimir Putin’s attack on Ukraine and called on all Americans to impose sanctions on Russia even if doing so hurts the United States economy. His statements make him sound like a strong ally of Ukraine, ready to do whatever it takes to protect innocents from harm. But there is more to this story than meets the eye. When you examine Obama’s career, you find that he has done everything in his power to encourage the current invasion. Just seven months after Obama was sworn in as a...

There are some people out there that thought that global financial markets would be largely unaffected by the war in Ukraine. Those people were wrong. This week, investors have received a very rude wake up call. Stock prices are plunging, commodity prices are going completely nuts, and a very thick cloud of fear has descended upon Wall Street. The fact that this war has permanently changed economic and financial conditions is starting to sink in, and it is likely that the level of panic will continue to rise in the days ahead. At this point, even average people on the...

It turns out that many rocket fuels are basic chemicals that are used in everyday life, which means you can find them in regular stores. But you shouldn't be under any illusion that these would work or be a good idea for a rocket.A better way to build rockets is to buy pre-made solid rocket motors, and then get certified by experts for bigger and bigger rocket motors https://www.nar.org/.Why Many Household Chemicals Are Also Rocket Fuels | February 24, 2022 | Scott Manley

WASHINGTON, March 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday let North Carolina and Pennsylvania use electoral maps approved by state courts to replace ones deemed to have given Republicans unfair advantages, improving Democratic chances of retaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November. The justices denied Republican requests to put on hold lower court rulings that adopted court-drawn boundaries for North Carolina's 14 House districts and Pennsylvania's 17 House districts to replace electoral maps devised by Republican-controlled legislatures in the two states. Republicans are seeking to regain control of the House, narrowly controlled by President Joe...

The animals painted in ocher in Colombia may include giant ground sloths and other creatures that vanished from the Americas. But some researchers say the art has a more recent origin. At the end of the last ice age, South America was home to strange animals that have since vanished into extinction: giant ground sloths, elephant-like herbivores and an ancient lineage of horses. A new study suggests that we can see these lost creatures in enchanting ocher paintings made by ice age humans on a rocky outcrop in the Colombian Amazon. These dazzling rock art displays at Serranía de la...

LONDON, March 7 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Boris Johnson rejected calls on Monday for Britain to ease visa requirements for Ukrainian refugees fleeing conflict, saying Britain was a generous country but it needed to maintain checks on who was arriving. The southern Ukrainian city of Odessa was on Monday bracing for a Russian assault as humanitarian conditions across the country continued to deteriorate under Moscow’s increased shelling of civilian areas. The mayor of the strategically important port city told The Washington Post that “the aggressor is not far from Odessa,” with the Kremlin’s forces having already captured the city of Kherson to the east and eight Russian warships looming just outside Ukraine’s territorial waters. Concern mounted as the third round of talks between the two sides ended without a breakthrough. Ukrainian officials said Russia pressed them to give up Crimea...
