LONDON, March 7 (Reuters) - Prime Minister Boris Johnson rejected calls on Monday for Britain to ease visa requirements for Ukrainian refugees fleeing conflict, saying Britain was a generous country but it needed to maintain checks on who was arriving.

The United Nations estimates that more than 1.5 million people have fled Ukraine since Russia started bombarding its neighbour, with hundreds of thousands pouring into Poland, Romania, Slovakia and elsewhere.

Wow. I guess they don’t care too much for Ukraine.

Below we see a group of “migrants” entering the UK. Does Boris Johnson check their papers himself, or does he delegate the task to others?

Yeah, I’m not surprised either but still stunned at the hypocrisy and cruelty.

Boris has more common sense than creepy Joe.

In the middle of a pandemic we’ve kept our borders wide open.

We don’t have a clue how many terrorist are now calling America home.

Unfortunately we will find out eventually.

In other words, Boris cares more about the citizens of his country than FJB cares about us.

Way to go Boris. Maybe you can teach this skill to FJB.

I notice that Hungary is never mentioned as a refugee destination.

I wonder if Viktor Orban has closed the Hungary-Ukraine border?

It was quite the picture on NBCDNC to see Lester Holt still wearing his COVID mask out in the middle of dozens of tired, displaced Ukrainian refugees.
Oddly enough Lester, I doubt COVID is on their minds.

Govt-owned housing supply in the cities where the social services are, is limited (think trying to get Section 8 in the US), and most of the refugees are women and children, who will need housing and income. Their socialized health is a shining example of why socialized health doesn’t work. To top it off, only 30% of Ukrainians are vaccinated with Russia’s vaccine, and England, although 85% of over 12’s are fully vaccinated, are still losing 2 covid patients/hr with 42K new cases a day. England and Germany are two places that shouldn’t be accepting at-risk refugees until they get their local pandemic under better control. Poland, with only 5K new cases a day, is safer for both host and refugee. Same with Hungary and Romania.

Covid is so over.

They might as well check vaccination for the Martian flu at this point.

That’s a rather misleading picture of the Covid situation in the UK. The ‘cases’ figure always seems relatively high here because of the universal distribution of free rapid antigen tests, which almost every household has, and the easy self-reporting of positive tests to a central database. Every self-reported positive test becomes a ‘case’, whereas elsewhere people with mild or no symptoms simply aren’t recorded. (The government has only just stopped issuing free kits). Far more significant are the hospitalisation and death figures, which have dropped steeply over recent months.
All restrictions have now been lifted, and the general atmosphere is that Covid is more or less over.

AFP News Agency (@AFP) Tweeted:
A UK government watchdog on Wednesday slammed the interior ministry for its handling of visa applications for Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion — with a Holocaust survivor said to be among those held up.
