The best prep strategy for most Americans is to store food. For those with tight budgets, look at what the poor of the world (with incomes of $2 per day) eat. You can probably buy enough beans and rice to last a person 3 years (or 3 people for 1 year) for $1000.
For example, the area where I live grows and processes rice nearby, and I’ve seen 20 lb bags of rice in Walmart recently for $9.
It just gets more exciting all the time. I can’t wait to see how this ends.
