“What Do You Expect?” (Luke 7:18-28) What you expect and when you expect it will make you either satisfied or disappointed. For example, suppose that for Christmas your true love has promised to give you twelve drummers drumming, eleven pipers piping, ten lords a’leaping, all the way down to three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree. But at the end of the day on December 25 all you’ve received is the partridge. You’re disappointed. You ask yourself, “Did my true love forget about the other stuff? Where are the geese and the maids and...

"By choosing your courses carefully, you can avoid the progressive sermonizing that passes for scholarship in some departments, but everyone has to undergo the orientation and first-year programs. You may have come to study computer science or literature or biochemistry, but first you’ll have to learn about social justice, environmental sustainability, gender pronouns, and microaggressions. You may have been planning to succeed by hard work, but first you’ll have to acknowledge your privilege or discover your victimhood. If you arrived at college hoping to broaden your intellectual horizons, you’ll quickly be instructed which ideas are off-limits." Read it and weep

I don’t mean about me, but about their situation.” And are “being told that Armageddon’s on the way. The truth is, the economy’s growing more than it has at any time in close to 60 years.” Biden also stated that fear of coronavirus is another reason for people being worried and acknowledged that there is inflation in areas that impact people.

If you are under 30, you will probably not understand. There was a time when there were millions of these things across the United States. They were once as ubiquitous as stop signs as you could find on on just about every corner. Every neighborhood bar had one. Every gas station. Every supermarket, restaurant, post office, convenience store, movie theaters, well, just about every public place you could think of. And in places where people congregated in larger numbers, there were BANKS of these things. Airports, shopping malls, sports stadiums, and highway rest areas had rows of them! I'm talking...

Here are two questions pertinent to our times: (1) How would you reduce the greatest free republic in history to despotism in a short time? and (2) How would you stop that from happening? The answer to the first question has been provided in these last two disastrous years. The answer to the second has begun to emerge in recent months. Both are worthy of study. Reducing a Great Republic to Despotism To establish despotism in a nation like ours, you might begin, if you were smart, by building a bureaucracy of great complexity that commands a large percentage of...

Thanks to his impassioned late-night pleas about health care and gun control, CNN has called Jimmy Kimmel “America’s conscience.” Jimmy Kimmel? This is the man who, along with bro-tastic podcaster Adam Carolla, brought you the Juggies, women in skimpy bikinis who ended each episode of The Man Show by bouncing on trampolines.... A friend insists that Kimmel has transformed from a chauvinistic joker into an empathetic conversationalist. (The friend, in this case, is Howard Stern.) There’s a lot that New Howard has left behind. When his show moved to satellite radio in 2004, Old Howard was like a kid in...

Call it “The Letter That Phil Swagel Wrote.” The letter from Phil Swagel, Director of the Congressional Budget Office, sent a letter to Congress stating that “The Congressional Budget Office and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation project that a version of the bill modified as you have specified would increase the deficit by $3.0 trillion over the 2022–2031 period.” In short, members of Congress asked the CBO “What would happen if the programs in the bill would be made permanent (which they almost always are made permanent). The result? The Letter That Phil Swagel Wrote: Federal Deficits...

How on earth do people agree to have weather taxed? A Millennial once asked how anyone could be against Climate Change because it isn’t even political. He had a point; climate change is weather. But if a political party finds an avenue to tax weather, it becomes political. The Democrat party has earned its nickname of “The Tax and Spend Party” going back nearly one hundred years. The Democrats have found their golden goose, an avenue to trillions of dollars [$1,000,000,000,000’s] by claiming that a possible 1.5 degrees Celsius rise in temperature may destroy our planet. The Millennials have claimed...

Drinking coffee or tea is associated with reduced risk for stroke and dementia, with the biggest benefit associated with consuming both beverages, new research suggests. Investigators found that individuals who drank 2 to 3 cups of coffee and 2 to 3 cups of tea per day had a 30% decrease in incidence of stroke and a 28% lower risk for dementia vs those who did not. Synergistic Effect? Whereas earlier studies have shown significant health benefits from moderate coffee and tea intake separately, few have examined the effect of drinking both. Researchers enrolled 365,682 participants from the UK Biobank for...

As Mark Twain famously noted: history may not always repeat, but it rhymes. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has taken the leading elements of a dark time in history and now openly advocates for their repetition. Can these people not hear themselves? Mr. Heiko von der Leyen organizes the scientific experiments, and then his wife Ursula advocates for forced vaccinations for all citizens within the European Union;...

Gov. Andy Beshear said dozens, maybe up to 100, were killed in western Kentucky after a long and significant tornado ripped through the area overnight. "We believe our death toll from this event will exceed 50 Kentuckians and probably end up 70 to 100," said Beshear. The city of Mayfield, Kentucky was hit particularly hard, including a candle manufacturing factory that was operating at the time the twister hit. There were 110 people in the building at the time that it was nearly collapsed by the tornado. Dozens are expected to be lost from there, Beshear said.
